GRADUATE STUDENT-R D - STUDENT ENGINEER

- Rotating Machinery Design, Development, and Test

Who We Are:

The Rotating Machinery Development (RMD) section of the Machinery Department addresses aero-thermal, rotordynamic, mechanical, and operational design, performance, and testing of turbomachinery components and systems across all major industries. As a Student Engineer/Graduate Student, you would work under the direction of a senior engineer to assist in assembling test rigs, operating advanced energy machinery, and working on solutions to decarbonize and power our world.

Objectives of this

Role:

Work under direction of a senior engineer to assist in assembling research test rigs, operating tests, and recording measurements to study and test custom pumps, compressors, and turbines.

Obtain meaningful applied research experience in the areas of turbomachinery aerodynamics, vibration, machine design, construction, and operation.

Present to peers and mentors on progress, lessons learned, and suggested actions.

Summer 2027 Student/ Graduate Student position.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

Perform hands-on work in a laboratory environment as well as performing computer-related tasks that include analysis and reporting.

Manage and prioritize assigned tasks among multiple projects.

When needed, independently solve problems that do not have a clear solution path and with little direction.

Utilize commercial engineering software for design or analysis, this may include computational fluid dynamics (CFD) or finite element analysis (FEA).

Conduct experimental testing using LabVIEW for data acquisition and interpret results to make conclusions about the work.

Assist with various promotional and project work as assigned.

Requirements:

Must be pursuing a Bachelors, Masters or a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering or related engineering degree field.

Undergraduates must be rising seniors.

0 years: MATLAB, Python, ANSYS, statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, LabVIEW.

A valid/clear driver's license is required

Special Requirements:

Must be a U.S. person (i.e., U.S. citizen, non-U.S. citizen national, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) due to ITAR work in section.
