Position OverviewWe are seeking a licensed Mechanical Engineer (Professional Engineer, PE) to lead the design and delivery of commercial mechanical systems. The role focuses on HVAC and building energy systems across project design and construction phases, ensuring code compliance, high performance, and constructability. The successful candidate will collaborate with architects, electrical and structural engineers, contractors and clients to produce clear, buildable mechanical engineering solutions that meet schedule, budget and sustainability goals.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead the mechanical design of commercial HVAC, hydronic, plumbing and fire protection systems from schematic design through construction documents.
Perform engineering calculations, load analyses, equipment selection and system sizing to meet performance, code and energy goals.
Prepare and review mechanical drawings, specifications and construction details using CAD and BIM tools (AutoCAD, Revit MEP).Stamp and seal design documents as the responsible Professional Engineer (PE) and ensure technical accuracy and regulatory compliance.
Coordinate mechanical systems with architects, electrical, structural and civil disciplines to resolve design conflicts and ensure integration.
Provide construction administration support including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, conducting site visits, and addressing as-built changes.
Perform energy modeling, system optimization and value engineering to improve building energy performance and lifecycle cost.
Develop project scopes, schedules and cost estimates; track progress and support project management tasks to meet milestones and budgets.
Mentor and train junior engineers and technicians, fostering best practices in mechanical engineering, design and construction.
Manage client relationships, attend project meetings and communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
QualificationsBachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field); Masters degree a plus.
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in relevant state(s) required.5+ years of mechanical engineering experience with a focus on commercial building projects, HVAC system design and construction support.
Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, hydronics, plumbing, energy systems and building science principles.
Proficiency with CAD and BIM tools (AutoCAD, Revit MEP) and engineering calculation software; experience with energy modeling tools (e.g., eQUEST, EnergyPlus) preferred.
Familiarity with applicable codes and standards including ASHRAE, IMC, IECC, NFPA and local building codes.
Experience with construction administration, commissioning and site coordination.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proven ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and manage client expectations.
