Job Description

Virginia Commercial Space Flight Authority seeks a Design Engineer III to support spaceport and autonomous systems infrastructure at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport. In this role, you will design and analyze launch pad, ground support, and handling systems, producing models, drawings, and calculations that meet aerospace and safety standards. Working in a small, collaborative team, you'll partner with senior engineers, operations staff, government, and industry stakeholders to develop concepts, support testing and commissioning, and help advance Virginia's launch and UAS capabilities. Responsibilities Support design and analysis of launch pad, ground support, and transport systems for spaceport operations Create and update 3 D models, drawings, and engineering documentation to industry and NASA standards Run structural and thermal calculations under supervision to validate concepts and hardware performance Collaborate with senior engineers, operations, and contractors to refine requirements and resolve design issues Participate in design reviews, trade studies, and risk assessments for new and upgraded systems Coordinate with vendors on component selection, specifications, and technical queries Assist with testing, integration, and commissioning of systems at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and configuration control procedures in all design work Required Skills Mechanical design3 D CAD (e.g., Solid Works, Creo, Inventor) Finite element analysis (FEA) Structural analysis Thermal analysis Aerospace or mechanical engineering fundamentals Technical drawing and GD&TRequirements and configuration management Test planning and execution Launch pad or ground support equipment design
