Mechanical Engineer HDT Global life insurance, long term disability, 401(k) United States, Virginia, Fredericksburg 510 Lansdowne Road (Show on map) Aug 17, 2026 Description BLADE is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for its Fredericksburg, VA facility. This role will participate in a variety of engineering assignments including requirements analysis, concept generation, mechanical design, implementation, testing, and documentation for military, government and commercial customers. This role will focus on CBRN and CWS (containerized weapon) and other upcoming integrated systems. The Mechanical Engineer role will work on multiple projects of moderate size or on portions of major projects. Position is 100% on-site.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strong mechanical fundamentals (statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, etc), strong understanding of electrical/electronic skills is a plus Performs complex design, trade studies and research tasks to support the development of mechanical and electrical systems within integrated products Ability to conceptualize and implement the design of complex systems and mechanisms to support customer specifications and requirements Designs a complete project, system, component, or process and prepares project documents including test reports, technical reports, progress reports and final project reports as required. Designs and conducts experiments, analyzes and interprets data, formulates and solves problems Drafting of production drawings for machined parts, fabrications and weldments, COTS parts, assemblies, and schematics using SolidWorks and other related tools Static and dynamic structural analysis using a variety of tools including both hand calculations and finite element analysis (FEA) Understanding of materials needed to optimize strength, weight, cost, and performance Understands machining and manufacturing processes to optimize cost without sacrificing performance Participates in the review of design, manufacturing, procedures, military specifications, inspection analyses, and test documentation to ensure quality requirements are met Assists lab and production personnel with hands-on manufacture, assembly, and inspection of new/revised products (prototypes and first articles) Create/maintain BOMs using Excel and SAP software
EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
BS degree in Mechanical Engineering 4-6 years' experience in similar technical role Military/ defense experience desired Knowledge of MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, and
MIL-STD-464
is preferred Demonstrated 3D CAD design experience (SolidWorks CAD preferred) Experience in GD&T Knowledgeable of a variety of manufacturing processes (milling, turning, welding, sheet metal fabrication, surface finish processes, coatings) Mechanically inclined and able to problem-solve with little information Strong computer skills including demonstrated proficiency in standard business software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office, especially Excel) Quality orientation and high attention to details Strong, proven organizational and time management skills Routinely punctual What WE offer: Employees (and their families) are covered by Medical, Dental and Vision Employees are covered by Short Term and Long Term Disability and Basic Life Insurance, Paid 100% by the company Company matching 401(k) plan 10 standard holidays, plus one floating holiday PTO "This position requires access to or use of export-controlled technical data or technology controlled by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
