Job Description

Mechanical Design Engineer - Custom Machinery McDonough Manufacturing | Eau Claire, WI Full-Time |
On-Site Salary:
$80,000-$105,000 per year, depending on experience Design it. See it built. Watch it run. McDonough Manufacturing is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. This is a hands-on engineering position for someone who enjoys designing real machinery and seeing their work come to life. Our engineers work directly with the people who fabricate, machine, assemble, wire and test the equipment they design. You won't be designing the same product every day. McDonough manufactures custom and highly engineered sawmill equipment, giving our engineers the opportunity to solve unique problems, improve existing equipment and develop new machinery for customers throughout North America and around the world. If you enjoy machine design, manufacturing and working closely with the people who actually build what you design, we'd like to talk with you. What You'll Do As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will: Design custom machinery, assemblies and components using SolidWorks. Create detailed manufacturing drawings and bills of material. Develop designs from concept through manufacturing, assembly and testing. Perform engineering calculations and apply sound mechanical design principles. Work directly with our machining, fabrication and assembly teams to resolve questions and improve designs. Review existing equipment and develop improvements to performance, reliability, manufacturability and cost. Support equipment testing and troubleshooting in our Eau Claire facility. Work with customers and internal teams to understand equipment requirements and develop practical solutions. Participate in design reviews and collaborate with other mechanical and electrical engineers. Support equipment installations and field troubleshooting as experience grows. Take increasing ownership of complete equipment and projects as your experience and knowledge develop. What We're Looking For We're interested in engineers who have strong mechanical aptitude, enjoy solving problems and want to work close to the manufacturing process.
Preferred qualifications include:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field. Experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software. Experience designing machinery, weldments, fabricated structures, mechanical assemblies or industrial equipment. Understanding of manufacturing processes including machining, welding and fabrication. Ability to create clear and accurate manufacturing drawings. Strong mechanical problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate and work effectively with engineers, machinists, welders, assemblers, customers and suppliers. Experience with custom machinery or industrial equipment is preferred, but we are willing to consider engineers at different experience levels who demonstrate strong mechanical ability and the desire to learn. Why McDonough? McDonough Manufacturing has been building sawmill machinery since 1888. Today, we combine that history with modern engineering, manufacturing and controls technology to build equipment for customers throughout the wood-products industry. Our Eau Claire facility brings engineering and manufacturing together under one roof. You'll have the opportunity to walk out of engineering and see your designs being fabricated, machined and assembled—and work directly with the people building them. At McDonough, you'll have the opportunity to: Work on custom machinery rather than repetitive product design. See projects progress from concept through completed equipment. Work directly with an experienced engineering and manufacturing team. Gain hands-on exposure to machining, welding, fabrication, assembly, electrical controls and equipment testing. Develop your skills and take on increasing project responsibility. Work on large, complex industrial equipment with real-world applications. Build a long-term career with an established Wisconsin manufacturer. The Type of Engineer Who Will Enjoy This Role You'll likely enjoy working at McDonough if you like figuring out how things work, aren't afraid to walk onto the shop floor and ask questions, and get satisfaction from seeing something you designed become a functioning piece of equipment. We're looking for someone who takes pride in good engineering, works well with others and wants to continue developing their skills. If that sounds like you, we'd like to hear from you. Apply today to start a conversation with McDonough Manufacturing.
