Job Description

American Signal Corporation is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer, Level 2 or Level 3 to join our product development team. In this role, you will bridge the gap between design and production, ensuring that equipment designs are manufacturable, inspectable, and easily assembled. You will be responsible for developing detailed CAD models, interfacing directly with vendors, and resolving real-time assembly floor issues. Key Responsibilities Design & Documentation Develop, modify, and maintain parametric CAD models and assemblies using Solidworks or Fusion 360 . Prepare detailed mechanical drawings with proper GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) to ensure part function and manufacturability. Prepare or review assembly documents, work instructions, and bill of materials (BOMs). Vendor & Manufacturing Support Conduct Design for Manufacturability (DFM) meetings with component vendors to optimize part design for cost, quality, and lead time. Prepare incoming inspection protocols to ensure purchased components meet engineering specifications before release to production. Review equipment designs for clarity, tolerance stack-ups, and assembly feasibility. Assembly & Quality Resolution Act as primary engineering support for assembly floor issues, providing immediate troubleshooting and design solutions. Collaborate with quality and production teams to resolve non-conformances and implement corrective actions. General Maintain organized engineering files, drawing registers, and revision history. Use MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Visio) to create test reports, process flow diagrams, and technical presentations.
Required Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
Experience:
2-5 years of industry experience in mechanical design or manufacturing engineering.
CAD Proficiency:
Demonstrated proficiency in Solidworks or Fusion 360
Drawing Standards:
Strong knowledge of drawing and tolerancing standards.
DFM:
Experience leading DFM reviews with vendors (sheet metal, machining, etc.
Inspection:
Familiarity with incoming inspection methods (calipers, go/no-go gauges).
Assembly Support:
Proven ability to resolve mechanical assembly issues on a production floor.
Software:
Fluid user of MS Office suite
  • particularly Word (reports), Excel (data analysis, tolerance spreadsheets), and Visio (flowcharts, process mapping).
Key Competencies Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills. Excellent written and verbal communication for vendor and internal meetings. Ability to manage multiple tasks across design, vendor, and production interfaces. Detail-oriented with a focus on clear, error-free documentation.
