Position Overview:

The Piping Designer is responsible for supporting the design, maintenance, and continuous improvement of chemical plant piping systems. This role involves creating and updating P&IDs, equipment layouts, 3D models, and piping isometrics to ensure plant operations are efficient, safe, and compliant with industry standards. The designer will work closely with process engineers and other departments to maintain accurate as-built documentation and support ongoing projects within an active chemical processing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

P&IDs:

Scribe markup from process engineers using AutoCAD and PDF editors such as Bluebeam. Verify P&IDs against Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), route piping, and confirm pipe specifications. Add line numbers, tie-in numbers, specialty item numbers, and other identifiers in accordance with Company standards.

Equipment Layouts:

Perform equipment layout studies to optimize accessibility and ergonomics. Update and create scaled 2D equipment layouts using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Plant 3D. Generate 2D layouts from 3D models.

Piping Isometrics:

Survey field conditions and design optimized pipe routing using sound engineering practices. Model piping systems and generate piping isometric drawings using AutoCAD Plant 3D. AutoCAD Plant 3

D Modeling:

Build and maintain plant 3D models to produce extracted isometrics. Perform Navisworks model reviews to identify and resolve design issues. Utilize 3D laser scans to detect interferences and improve piping design accuracy.

Project Controls:

Develop and maintain line lists, tie-in lists, and hold lists using standard Excel templates. Prepare material take-offs (MTOs) from models, sketches, and isometrics. Conduct detailed design checks for completeness and accuracy, including 3D models, P&IDs, instrumentation specs, isometrics, and structural elevations.

Qualifications:

Required:

High School Diploma with 5+ years of piping design experience, or an Associate's Degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience. Proficiency in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, and Navisworks. Strong knowledge of pipe specifications, materials, and layout standards. Field work experience in active chemical plants or similar processing industries, including taking field measurements and walking down P&IDs.
