In this role, you will work closely with mechanical and process engineers to develop detailed designs for process systems, piping systems, and process equipment using SolidWorks and other CAD tools. The ideal candidate will have experience translating process engineering requirements into detailed 3D models, piping layouts, equipment assemblies, fabrication drawings, and technical design packages. This position involves supporting sensitive government projects and requires an active DOE Q security clearance or equivalent DoD Top Secret clearance.
Key responsibilities include:
Develops detailed CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings using SolidWorks or equivalent design software; Creates and maintains detailed process equipment designs, including tanks, vessels, skids, mechanical systems, and associated components; Designs and develops piping systems, piping layouts, isometrics, support details, and related mechanical infrastructure in accordance with project requirements and applicable standards; Produces detailed 3D models, equipment layouts, piping arrangements, and manufacturing-ready 2D drawings for complex mechanical and process systems; Collaborates with process, mechanical, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to translate process flow requirements, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and design criteria into constructible designs; Supports process design engineering activities through layout development, equipment integration, piping routing, and design optimization; Participates in design reviews to ensure manufacturability, constructability, operability, and compliance with project requirements; Performs design duties on projects involving classified information while strictly adhering to federal government security and facility protocols; and Maintains accurate design history files, revision logs, configuration control documentation, and technical data packages in accordance with applicable standards and client requirements. Basic qualifications Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in mechanical drafting and design, with experience supporting process equipment, piping systems, or industrial process facilities Associate's degree or technical certificate in Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD), Mechanical Engineering Technology, Process Design Technology, or a related field Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent CAD 3D software, including modeling, assemblies, drawing generation, and design documentation Experience creating detailed mechanical designs, process equipment layouts, piping models, and fabrication drawings Ability to interpret and work from engineering specifications, equipment data sheets, P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and technical sketches Active U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q Security Clearance or Department of Defense (DoD) Top Secret Security Clearance Capable of working onsite daily in Wilmington, NC, within a secure, highly-regulated facility Preferred skills/qualifications Five (5)-plus years of professional experience in mechanical, piping, or process design within industrial, energy, nuclear, chemical, manufacturing, or government environments Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Computer-Aided Drafting, Process Design, or a related technical discipline Experience supporting process design engineering, including equipment layouts, piping design, process systems integration, and facility design Familiarity with industry standards and practices related to piping and process equipment design Experience developing equipment skids, pressure vessel layouts, utility systems, and plant piping arrangements Experience with design reviews, configuration management, and controlled design documentation Experience coordinating designs across mechanical, process, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines Experience with both mechanical and electrical design environments is a plus
Pay Range:
