Position Summary The Drafter uses computer-aided design (CAD) technology to create, update and modify drawings, and performs manual drafting. The Drafter is also responsible for any project work as assigned by the Operations Manager. Principle Responsibilities/Accountabilities Utilizes computer aided drafting tools, typically SolidWorks, to generate final sketches and drawings of mechanical piping and equipment, including prints for customer submittals and manufacturing drawings for fabrication or purchase. Must be proficient in creating drawings from existing models and new conceptual designs. Works in conjunction with design engineers, project and shop personnel to produce detailed lay outs, hand sketches/drawings and project notes to convert into CAD blueprints. Reviews and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs including the procedures and instructions to be followed. Copies project drawings. Works with Engineers and other design personnel to insure proper design. Self-checks and corrects all work prior to submitting for final review/production. Performs other related duties, as assigned. Visits job sites as needed to confirm dimensions and layout of drawings. Performs general office duties such as filing, copying, scanning. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Must be proficient with SolidWorks and have experience in 2D & 3D platforms, strong background in mechanical (piping) and structural fabrication. Electrical experience is a plus. Capable of creating and modifying diagrams, piece part drawings and simple assemblies. Able to produce coordinated shop drawings for fabrication and installation. Must have a basic understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerance principles. Working knowledge of Oil and Gas Industry. Ability to keep company proprietary information confidential. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite) and above average math skills. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work successfully with a wide variety of people at different levels within the organization. Detail orientated with strong organizational skills. Combination of education, experience and training may be substituted for these requirements. 3-5 years' experience in construction or oil & gas industries. Licensure And Certification Valid Driver's License. Environment Work primarily in a climate controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. Sedentary, sitting, walking, occasional lifting (overhead, waist level) from floor, bending, frequent near vision use for reading and computer use; frequent stressful conditions (cardiovascular).
