Based on qualifications and experience Phoenix Labor Group is recruiting a Maritime Lead Piping Designer for a shipyard client. This position leads the development of vessel piping arrangements, drawings, models, spool details, and production packages for new-construction and repair projects while supporting design accuracy, regulatory compliance, and efficient fabrication and installation. Key Responsibilities Lead the design and development of shipboard piping systems, arrangements, connections, layouts, and equipment interfaces. Develop and check piping drawings, isometrics, spool drawings, 3D models, and production packages. Translate engineering design intent into accurate, buildable information for shipyard production teams. Review and validate production packages using red-line, back-fix, and as-built processes. Coordinate with engineering, production, purchasing, and other design disciplines to resolve clashes and field issues. Ensure piping deliverables comply with project specifications, ABS rules, USCG requirements, and shipbuilding practices. Mentor junior designers and help maintain design quality, priorities, and schedule commitments. Required Qualifications Ten or more years of shipbuilding or marine piping design experience. Associate degree in a related field or equivalent directly relevant experience. Advanced experience with AutoCAD and strong working experience with ShipConstructor and Navisworks. Extensive knowledge of marine piping systems, equipment, connections, routing, and layouts. Experience designing and checking piping arrangements, spool drawings, and production packages. Understanding of ABS and USCG rules and shipyard fabrication methods. Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills, plus proficiency with Microsoft Office. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting both vessel new construction and repair projects. Experience resolving piping interferences and incorporating field changes into controlled drawings and models. Work Environment and Physical Requirements This role may require work in office, shipyard, fabrication, waterfront, and onboard-vessel environments. Depending on the assignment, the employee may need to stand, sit, walk, bend, kneel, climb stairs or ladders, access confined or elevated work areas, perform ship checks, and carry work-related tools or equipment.
