• + The Client T&M ADG (Aerospace, Defense, Government Business Unit) Customer Centric Solutions team is seeking to hire an experienced Mechanical Drafter to work on custom engineering opportunities that enable the sale of standard NI Products.

The primary responsibilities of this position are to work with NI customers, engineering teams, and contract manufacturers to define, document, design and deploy NI products tailored to meet specific customer requirements for large scale turnkey engineering solutions. The ideal candidate works closely with electrical and mechanical engineers to gather system and structural requirements to calculate dimensions, weight limitations, and material requirements, then create detailed designs using CAD software.

• Core Job Responsibilities:
• + This is a multi-functional role dealing with diverse engineering needs, including the ability to gather requirements, generate specification documents, interface with contract manufacturers and internal personnel to create custom mechanical designs needed for the system.

The role will include:

+ Generating custom mechanical drawings and designs and Bill of Materials

+ Designing/modeling /prototyping mechanical system components for test and measurement solutions

+ Traveling as needed (possibly up to 25%) domestically and abroad in support of project objectives

• Experience and Skill Requirements:
• Minimum Requirements
• +

BS Degree:

in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics

+ Minimum of 5 years relevant industry experience in a Mechanical Drafting Role

+ Highly proficient with 3 to 5 years of experience in CREO

+ Thorough understanding of fundamental mechanical design principles and processes

+ In-depth knowledge of 2D & 3D design tools i.e. CREO, Pro/E, SolidWorks

+ Proficient with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles

+ Excellent oral and written communication skills

+ History of generating detailed drawings and design documentation

+ Successful history of working with external suppliers

• Preferred Skills
• + Familiar with fixture and tool design + Familiar with thermal analysis and stress analysis + Knowledge of FMEA and RCCA methodologies + Knowledge of fabrication techniques, (machining, stamping, extrusion, casting, sheet metal layout, etc.) + Knowledge of ESD principles + Basic knowledge of electrical design principles i.e. grounding, shielding, cable design
• Demonstrated ability to:
• + Be detail-oriented, have a strong understanding of building processes, and possess excellent technical drafting skills + Work effectively in a group development environment + Problem-solve effectively - diagnose technical issues and propose reasonable solutions + Take initiative, be a self-starter, and work independently + Persistently drive tasks and lead projects to successful completion + Quickly learn applicable technology, systems, and products + Have a strong work ethic and drive to succeed
