Job Description

Drafter The Drafter position that we are looking to fill at Zev Technologies, will be responsible for creating accurate technical drawings and 3D models used for product design, manufacturing, and documentation. This role supports engineers by transforming concepts, sketches, and specifications into detailed plans that guide production and quality control. This role demands accuracy and a deep familiarity with mechanical components. The position will report directly to the Director of Product Development.
Primary Position Summary:
The Drafter supports product development by creating, revising, and maintaining detailed 2D and 3D technical drawings for firearm components, assemblies, and accessories. This role works closely with design engineers, manufacturing teams, and quality assurance to ensure drawings meet functional requirements, industry standards, and compliance regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Attention to Detail
  • Ability to produce error-free drawings with tight tolerances. Problem Solving
  • Ability to identify design issues and propose manufacturable solutions Technical Drafting
  • Produce detailed 2D/3D CAD models and engineering drawings for firearm components, assemblies, and tooling. Design Documentation
  • Maintain drawing packages, revision histories, BOMs, and engineering change documentation. GD&T Application
  • Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing to ensure manufacturability and repeatability. Firearm Component Modeling
  • Create accurate models of receivers, barrels, slides, triggers, bolts, and related mechanisms. Manufacturing Support
  • Collaborate with machinists and production engineers to ensure drawings align with machining capabilities and cost targets. Quality & Compliance
  • Ensure drawings meet internal quality standards and necessary compliance requirements. Prototype Development
  • Assist in preparing drawings and models for rapid prototyping and testing. Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work with R&D, Vendors, Supply Chain, and testing teams to refine designs based on performance data. CAD Proficiency
  • Strong experience with SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, or similar platforms.
Working Knowledge:
Blueprint Reading
  • Ability to interpret complex drawings and assembly diagrams. Material Knowledge
  • Understanding of steels, aluminum alloys, polymers, and heat-treat processes. Testing & Validation Exposure
  • Familiarity with endurance testing, pressure testing, and safety validation. Industry Experience
  • Background in manufacturing, mechanical design, or product development.
Required Qualifications:
5+ years in an engineering/draftsman position. Accredited program completion / graduated from a trade design school and/or university Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment. (
Note:
shooting sports and/or defense industry experience is not required) Excellent communication and collaboration skills with engineers, machinists, and test technicians Strong eye for detail and very organized when it comes to drawings that move smoothly from engineering to machining, require minimal revisions, and have good revision control parameters in place. Ability to manage multiple programs, meeting tight deadlines in a manufacturing environment
