Draftsman III Job Description :
GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the general supervision, drafts designs utilizing computer-aided drafting systems to prepare drawings and designs. Drawings are used to obtain work permits and to illustrate construction methods or materials and fabrication direction.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Drafts and produces engineering drawings and data needed for the permitting process that meet local municipalities guidelines Drafts and produces shop drawings for in-house or outside vendors to illustrate signage or other structure fabrication Converses with engineers and other subject matter experts to interpret design concepts, determine nature and type of required detailed Assists in identifying trouble areas and providing necessary fixes to ensure the manufacturing or installation processes are not impeded Researches and recommends new materials and hardware for use on signage or other structures
MARGINAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs site visits and field surveys to determine existing conditions and installation solutions Performs other functions as necessary or as assigned
NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS
Interacts with vendors Daily interaction with the engineering team, production staff and other departments
TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS
An individual with experience in the sign industry is highly sought after. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. An Associate's Degree and four or more years of relevant experience involving demonstrated abilities in drafting, mechanical drawing, and computer design work; or any combination of training, education and experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills. Ability to interpret and visualize mechanical concepts from written and verbal direction Ability to organize, prioritize and coordinate multiple work activities to meet critical deadlines, as well as working independently Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individuals in person, via telephone and in writing Ability to operate computer, telephone, and other office equipment Excellent computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and drafting (AutoCAD, CoreIDRAW, Autodesk Inventor, etc.) Excellent basic design math skills Strong work ethic with an enthusiastic, positive attitude, and the highest level of integrity Excellent communication and presentation skills Ability to maintain regular and timely attendance Background in mechanical or structural engineering preferred Ability to 3D model structures using AutoCAD and RISA preferred
