USDI USDI
has provided engineering and technical solutions since 1987, supporting customers across embedded systems, software development, systems engineering, electrical architecture, and advanced technology programs. USDI specializes in delivering experienced engineering resources and practical technical solutions for complex development environments across automotive, industrial, defense, and high-reliability applications. Position Summary We're looking for a Vehicle Controls Engineer to join our team developing embedded control algorithms that run onboard vehicles, using Model-Based Design (MBD) methodology in MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow. This role is focused on real-time control software for vehicle systems — vehicle speed control, drive-by-wire, and related ECU-based functions — not industrial/factory automation or PLC-based process control. It's a great fit for someone building a career in automotive controls engineering who wants hands-on experience across the full development cycle, working alongside experienced engineers. Responsibilities Develop and test embedded control algorithms for onboard vehicle systems in MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow under the guidance of senior team members Apply Model-Based Design methodology, from requirements through auto-code generation for deployment on vehicle ECUs Support calibration and validation of vehicle speed control systems Assist with drive-by-wire system development and testing Participate in bench and vehicle testing, and help troubleshoot issues found during validation Collaborate with systems, software, hardware, and test engineers in an agile team environment Track work and manage issues using Git and Jira Grow technical depth in automotive/vehicle controls through mentorship and applied project work Required Qualifications Working knowledge of MATLAB and Simulink (coursework, internship, or project experience acceptable) Exposure to Model-Based Design methodology Preferred Qualifications Coursework or project experience related to drive-by-wire systems Exposure to vehicle speed control system concepts Familiarity with New Eagle products or the Raptor development toolchain Nice to Have Familiarity with high-voltage systems General Requirements Some experience with version control and issue-tracking tools and workflows (Git, Jira) Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment Strong desire to learn and grow technical skills in a mentorship-supported environment
Note:
This is a vehicle/automotive embedded controls role. It does not involve PLC programming, SCADA/HMI, or factory/assembly-line automation — candidates from an industrial automation controls background without automotive/embedded experience are not a fit for this position.
