Apply Position Overview:
The Junior Mine Engineer is responsible for supporting the safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of the open pit mine plan through the development and management of short-range planning activities. This role works closely with Operations, Geology, Survey, and Technical Services to translate strategic mine plans into practical daily, weekly, and monthly mining schedules. The successful candidate will utilize Deswik as the primary mine planning and scheduling software.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly mine plans.
  • Create detailed mining schedules and sequences.
  • Generate production forecasts and communicate mining priorities.
  • Monitor mining progress against plan and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develop detailed open pit mine designs using Deswik.
  • Design pit phases, cuts, pushbacks, haul roads, dumps, and stockpiles.
  • Complete production reconciliation and variance analysis.
  • Collaborate with Geology and Survey to maintain accurate plans.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and medium-range planning.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
  • Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline.
  • 3-5 years of open pit mining experience.
  • Experience in short-range mine planning and mine design.
  • Proficiency with Deswik CAD, Deswik Scheduler, and related tools.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Preferred
  • Experience in precious metals open pit operations.
  • Experience with medium-range planning and budget support.
  • Familiarity with Vulcan, Leapfrog, Power BI, or related software.
  • EIT certification or progress toward PE licensure.
Performance Measures:
  • Compliance with weekly and monthly mine plans.
  • Achievement of ore and waste production targets.
  • Accuracy and practicality of mine designs and schedules.
  • Quality and timeliness of engineering deliverables.
