Job Description

We're seeking a Geotechnical Project Engineer to support geotechnical and specialty construction projects. This role combines office-based engineering and field work, including investigations, analysis, design, reporting, and construction observation. Key Responsibilities Perform geotechnical engineering tasks under the direction of senior engineers and project managers. Coordinate and support field investigations, borings, sampling, testing, and subcontractors. Review boring logs, laboratory results, groundwater data, drawings, and specifications. Prepare geotechnical reports, calculations, technical memoranda, specifications, and proposals. Assist with design and evaluation of shallow/deep foundations, retaining walls, slopes, earth retention, ground improvement, pavements, and related systems. Perform calculations for bearing capacity, settlement, lateral earth pressure, slope stability, seepage, and foundation capacity. Conduct construction observation, soil/rock logging, and geotechnical testing. Document field conditions, construction progress, test results, and potential issues. Coordinate with engineers, project managers, contractors, clients, laboratories, and field personnel. Support project managers with scheduling, budgets, scopes, and field/laboratory coordination. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Geological Engineering, or related field. 2-8 years of relevant geotechnical, civil, construction, or materials testing experience. EIT certification or ability to obtain preferred. Basic knowledge of soil mechanics, foundation engineering, geotechnical analysis, and construction practices. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel. Strong communication, organization, attention to detail, and technical aptitude. Willingness to perform field work and travel, including occasional overnight travel; field assignments may be up to 50% . Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Geotechnical/Civil Engineering. Experience with geotechnical software such as Slide2, RS2, LPile, GROUP, DeepFND, Settle3, PLAXIS, gINT, or OpenGround . Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, or GIS . Familiarity with FHWA, ASTM, AASHTO, DOT, IBC, ACI, or AISC standards. Experience with foundations, earth retention, slope stability, ground improvement, dams/levees, pavements, or specialty geotechnical construction. Relevant certifications such as
ACI, NICET, OSHA
10/30, nuclear gauge, or DOT materials testing. Work Environment Hybrid schedule with approximately one week per month in the Lexington, KY office . Field work may involve active construction and undeveloped sites. Ability to work outdoors, walk uneven terrain, access excavation/drilling areas, and carry field equipment.
