Role Description This full-time Geotechnical Project Engineer role is a hybrid position based in Portland, OR, with flexibility for some work from home. The Geotechnical Project Engineer will conduct site investigations, oversee field exploration programs, and coordinate laboratory testing of soil and rock samples. Daily responsibilities include performing geotechnical analyses, preparing engineering reports, developing design recommendations, and reviewing plans and specifications for foundations, earth retention, and earthwork. The role involves managing project tasks, communicating with clients and project teams, and supporting permitting and construction phases through technical guidance and occasional site visits. The engineer will collaborate with senior staff, mentor junior team members as needed, and contribute to improving internal standards and project delivery processes. Qualifications Geotechnical and civil engineering skills, including subsurface investigation, foundation design, slope stability, and earthwork evaluation. Strong analytical and technical skills in geotechnical software, data interpretation, and preparation of engineering calculations. Project management abilities, including task planning, schedule tracking, coordination with multidisciplinary teams, and client communication. Technical writing and documentation skills to produce clear reports, design memoranda, and construction recommendations. Field-related competencies, such as supervising drilling operations, logging soil and rock, and observing construction activities. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering; a Master's degree with a geotechnical focus is preferred. Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required; ability to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in Oregon within a defined timeframe is highly desirable. Familiarity with local codes, standards, and geotechnical practices in the Pacific Northwest is an advantage.
