This position is part of the Amentum Space Exploration Division (ASED) support to the
NASA EM32
Welding & Manufacturing (W&M) team under the Engineering Services and Science Capability Augmentation (ESSCA) contract to the
NASA MSFC
Engineering Directorate. The primary focus of this position is manufacturing large aluminum aerospace structures using fusion welding and friction stir welding processes. Education and experience relevant to this position will be evaluated from that perspective. The position's primary responsibilities are to perform and/or perform welding and fabrication operations. This is an entry level technician who receives on-the-job training. The individual follows standard work methods on recurring assignments but receives explicit instructions on unfamiliar assignments. The technical adequacy of routine work is reviewed on completion, and non-routine work may be reviewed in progress. This individual receives on-the-job training in the engineering and scientific fields to utilize tools such as simple hand instruments, levels and compasses. This individual will use skills to draw simple curves and lines, make tracings, or take measurements, take test readings and record findings, perform basic mathematics using standard formulas, conduct basic field observations and obtain, identify, handle, and store material samples, and assist higher level technicians by preparing graphs, charts, diagrams, and visual presentations.
Qualifications:
Typically, educational requirement is a High School diploma or GED or equivalent. Relevant candidate work experience will be evaluated against ESSCA contract engineering labor categories. The selected candidate must be able to obtain and maintain permission to operate customer-owned vehicles in support of work activities. The selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver's license, automobile liability insurance and successfully complete a company defensive driving training class. The selected candidate must be enrolled in a college or technical training program leading to an A.S. or A.A.S. degreed in welding technology or aerospace manufacturing technology with a concentration in welding. Work Environment General office environment (20%), industrial welding / manufacturing development laboratory / machine shop (80%). Requires ability to interact effectively with co-workers, managers, and clients. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, and accurate communications, both verbally and in writing (50%).
