Layout and Fit-Up Inspection Verify Dimensional Accuracy:

Inspect structural members (beams, columns, trusses) and miscellaneous metals (stairs, rails, ladders, embeds) against shop drawings.

Check Fit and Alignment:

Ensure components are fitted, clamped, and tacked correctly prior to final welding, verifying squareness, camber, elevation, and hole locations.

Use Precision Tools:

Accurately utilize measuring tapes, framing squares, calipers. 2. Welding and Code Compliance Visual Weld Inspection (VT): Inspect welds for size, profile, length, and continuity in accordance with

AWS D1.1

(Structural Welding Code - Steel) or

AWS D1.2 / D1.3

standards. Check for

Defects:

Identify and document surface defects such as undercut, porosity, overlap, or incomplete fusion.

WPS Verification:

Ensure welders are following approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and are qualified for the processes they are using. 3.

Job Tracking Shop work orders:

Tracking SWO's throughout the entire process. Entering/updating into EPM (tracking software). 4.

Documentation and Reporting Inspection Reports:

Maintain clear, accurate QC logs, inspection checklists, and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for out-of-spec items.

Final Signoffs:

Apply shop stamps or sign off on traveler/routing sheets once assemblies are cleared for shipping, painting, or galvanizing.
