This role involves conducting visual inspections, performing non-destructive testing (NDT), verifying welding parameters, and auditing finished assemblies to prevent defects and ensure structural integrity. Nature of Duties/Responsibilities
Inspection & Testing:
Perform in-process and final visual inspections (VT) of weldments to check for defects such as porosity, undercut, lack of fusion, and dimensional inaccuracies.
- Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Conduct or coordinate Dye Penetrant (PT), Magnetic Particle (MT), and Ultrasonic (UT) testing as required by product specifications.
Code & Blueprint Verification:
Interpret mechanical blueprints, engineering drawings, and welding symbols to ensure fabricators are following designated Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate QA/QC logs, inspection reports, and non-conformance records. Sign off on routing sheets for compliant parts.
Defect Resolution:
Identify non-conforming welds, tag defective parts, and work with welders and production supervisors to determine the root cause and execute rework procedures.
Equipment Calibration:
Ensure all inspection tools (weld gauges, micrometers, calipers) and welding equipment are properly calibrated and maintained.
Safety & Compliance:
Monitor the shop floor for compliance with safety regulations and verify that welders are working within their active Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ). Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in Welding Technology, Metallurgy, or Quality Assurance is highly preferred.
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or ASNT Level II certification in NDT methods (VT, PT, MT, UT) is strongly preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in hands-on welding, metal fabrication, or industrial quality control.
- Deep understanding of industry codes (e.
g., AWS
D1.1, ASME
Section IX). High proficiency in reading blueprints, engineering diagrams, and weld symbols.
- Hands-on experience with standard inspection tools (fillet weld gauges, V-WAC gauges, calipers, micrometers).
- Strong attention to detail, clear written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to provide constructive feedback to production teams.

$28.00 - $35.00 per hour
