Full Job Description Job Overview:
We are seeking a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to support quality assurance and control for large-scale structural steel fabrication and construction projects. This role is responsible for inspecting welds, verifying dimensional accuracy, and ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in steel fabrication environments and a keen eye for detail.
Essential Functions:
Support all TTI/FSS Company Safety Policies to ensure they are followed. Read, review, and understand blueprint drawings. Read and interpret WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications). Demonstrate working knowledge and experience in SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and SAW. Previous experience with heavy structural steel, bridge, and tank work. Set up equipment including leads, suitcases, and weld machines. Troubleshoot weld machines. Follow D1.1 and D1.5 code work. Understand and use weld gauges. Guide, coach, and develop members of the welding team. Perform verification of dimensions based on shop drawings and specifications. Perform dimensional checks with tape measures. Visually inspect welds for informational purposes.
Additional Duties:
Additional responsibilities or duties may be required as needed in support of company operations.
Quality Standards:
Must be able to read and understand drawings and cultists. Ensure all established welding procedures are followed.
Teamwork:
Teamwork is essential in this position. Must have a positive attitude and be able to work effectively with all departments, managers, and staff. Actively participate in safety meetings and promote company safety culture while working closely with the safety department.
Qualifications:
Excellent written and oral communication skills, keen attention to detail. Excellent coaching, listening, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language. Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment. Experience working in a team-oriented and collaborative environment. Must have QA/QC experience. Education and/or
Experience:
High School Diploma. 5+ years' experience in the welding field (required). Previous welding supervisory roles (preferred).
Language Skills:
Must be able to communicate professionally and show respect both orally and in written form effectively with co-workers, other departments, and managers.
Location:
Both Gibsonton & Adamo Dr facilities.
Reporting:
Reports to Shop Superintendent.
Additional Information:
No welding test required.
