- Nondestructive Testing (NDT) — No Prior Experiences Required This is an opportunity for someone who wants more than a short-term job.
You will learn specialized inspection skills, work alongside experienced NDT professionals, travel to power plant facilities, and build a career in a technical field. 3angles is looking for motivated individuals to join our team as Entry-Level NDT Technicians. You do not need previous NDT experience. We provide training and hands-on experience to help you develop the skills needed to become a certified NDT technician. Your Earning Potential Your earning potential is more than your base hourly rate. During our busy outage seasons, technicians have opportunities to work extended hours and earn overtime and doubletime pay , in addition to receiving per diem while traveling .
First-Year Earning Potential:
With regular project work, overtime, doubletime when applicable, and travel assignments, an entry level technician may have the opportunity to earn up to $50,000 during the first year . And this is only the beginning. As you gain field experience, successfully complete additional NDT training and certifications, and take on greater responsibilities, your earning potential increases. Technicians who continue developing their skills and qualifications may have the opportunity to increase their annual earnings up to $10,000 or more in the following year , depending on qualifications, workload, travel, and overtime opportunities. Travel Is a Major Part of This Job This position is best suited for someone who genuinely enjoys traveling and is willing to be away from home for extended periods. Our busiest work periods are generally:
Spring:
February-May Fall:
September-November During these busy seasons, extensive travel is expected. A typical job assignment may keep you away from home for approximately 2-3 weeks , although some projects can require you to be away for 5-6 weeks .
The good news:
You don't pay for business travel. The company pays for business-related travel expenses. When traveling for work, the company covers applicable: Airfare Hotels/lodging Rental vehicles or other transportation needed for the job Per diem for meals and incidental expenses You do not need to use your personal vehicle for business travel. If the idea of traveling to different locations, staying in hotels, working on interesting projects at the power plants, and experiencing different parts of the country appeals to you, this could be a great opportunity. What You'll Learn You will receive structured training and hands-on experience in Nondestructive Testing (NDT) — a specialized field used to inspect critical equipment without damaging it. Your initial training will focus on: Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT) Visual Testing (VT) Training includes online/classroom instruction, supervised on-the-job training, and testing required for qualification and certification. As you gain experience, additional training opportunities may include: Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Level I and Level II You will gradually take on more responsibility as your knowledge, skills, and certifications develop. What You'll Do As an Entry-Level NDT Technician, you will: Travel with experienced technicians to customer facilities. Assist with inspections at power plants and service shop facilities. Learn to perform NDT examinations using specialized equipment. Follow inspection procedures, specifications, and safety requirements. Record and document inspection results. Learn to identify defects and conditions in power plant components. Operate and care for inspection equipment. Work as part of a professional inspection team. Follow customer and company safety and quality requirements. Who We're Looking For We are looking for someone who: Wants to make NDT a career, not just take this as a short-term job Is willing to make a minimum 3-5 year commitment to learning the profession and developing within the company Is willing to travel extensively Is comfortable being away from home for several weeks at a time Is dependable and responsible Is mechanically inclined or interested in learning technical skills Is comfortable working in industrial environments Can follow detailed instructions and procedures Is detail-oriented and safety-conscious Is comfortable working as part of a team Is motivated to learn and develop a specialized career Is able to work flexible hours when project schedules require it Resides in or be willing to relocate to the Albany, NY area You don't need NDT experience. Previous experience is helpful but not required . We welcome candidates with backgrounds in: Mechanical or technical fields Manufacturing Construction Engineering Automotive or mechanical work Military service Technical/trade schools Other hands-on or industrial work Requirements High school diploma plus 1-4 years of college exp is preferred Valid driver's license with a minimum of 2 years driving experience Authorized to work in the United States and able to provide valid documentation of U.S. work authorization Ability to be away from home for extended assignments, typically 2-3 weeks and occasionally up to 5-6 weeks Ability to work safely and effectively in industrial environments, including areas with high noise and heavy equipment traffic and varying temperatures Ability to work flexible and extended hours when required by a project Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs., prolonged standing and walking, climbing ladders, and working in confined or elevated spaces. Ability to pass required background checks and customer/site access requirements Ability to follow written and verbal instructions Reliable and dependable work habits Please note: This position does not offer employment visa sponsorship. Candidates must already be authorized to work in the United States. Pay & Benefits As you progress through different levels of qualification and take on greater responsibilities, your compensation will be reviewed and adjusted accordingly. Because our technicians often work extended hours during busy projects, there is also an opportunity to significantly increase earnings through overtime and doubletime pay when applicable.
