Position Summary:
The UT Technician (Ultrasonic Testing) is responsible for performing non-destructive testing (NDT) inspections on wind turbine blades, composite structures, and related components using ultrasonic testing (UT) methods, including phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT). This role provides critical inspection data used to evaluate structural integrity, support root cause investigations, and inform repair and return-to-service decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform ultrasonic testing (UT), including A-scan, B-scan, and phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) on composite materials and structures. Conduct inspections on blade shells, main laminates, shear webs, root laminates, and adhesive bond lines. Identify defects, discontinuities, and structural anomalies in composite materials and components. Accurately document inspection results and maintain detailed records in accordance with applicable standards. Perform inspections in uptower and downtower environments, including inside blades, hubs, nacelles, and ground-based or suspended blade configurations. Work in confined spaces, at heights, and on rope access systems or elevated platforms as required. Interpret UT and PAUT data to support structural integrity assessments, root cause investigations, and repair scope development. Coordinate with rigging crews, rope access technicians, and crane operators to ensure safe access to work areas. Perform all work in compliance with OSHA regulations, GWO standards, and company safety procedures. Conduct job hazard analyses (JHAs) prior to inspections and maintain Stop-Work Authority when unsafe conditions are identified. Assist with calibration, maintenance, and proper handling of UT equipment.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience with phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) preferred. Prior experience inspecting composite structures required. Experience in wind turbine blade inspection, aerospace, marine, or similar industries preferred. Familiarity with GWO standards and composite repair processes preferred. Certifications & Licenses Level II or Level III Ultrasonic Testing (UT) certification (ASNT, NAS-410, or equivalent) required. Skills & Abilities Basic understanding of mechanical components and fastening methods. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Good manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude. Attention to detail and safety awareness. Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Ability to perform repetitive motions such as reaching, handling, and grasping tools or equipment. Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull materials up to 50 pounds, occasionally more with assistance. Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures and weather exposure. Ability to maintain situational awareness and adhere to safety protocols in high-risk environments. Ability to wear PPE appropriate to the work being performed. Ability to hear and respond to alarms, signals, and verbal instructions in noisy environments. Visual acuity sufficient to perform job-related tasks, including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to accurately interpret and respond to visual cues, including equipment indicators, hazards, and moving objects.
