In this role, you will collaborate with engineers, district staff, manufacturers, and researchers to ensure coatings are evaluated, approved, and applied in accordance with VDOT Specifications. The ideal candidate will have experience in steel coatings and inspection, with the ability to interpret specifications, review testing results against specifications, and perform field testing to support proper surface preparation and coating application. This role requires statewide travel to investigate coating issues, make coating and surface preparation recommendations to VDOT district and bridge personnel, and work directly with manufacturers on application methods and troubleshooting. Completion of the AMPP Bridge Coating Inspector (BCI) Level 1 and Fundamentals of Protective Coatings (C1) course is desirable but not mandatory.
