Certified Welding Inspector / Weld Trainer Job Description This role combines hands-on weld training with rigorous welding inspection and quality verification. You will coach welders, support new-hire weld tests, ensure adherence to welding procedures and codes, and maintain accurate quality documentation. The position plays a key role in driving continuous improvement, supporting production teams, and upholding safety and compliance standards across all welding activities. Responsibilities Provide hands-on weld training and instruction to welders, including coaching on proper techniques, best practices, and quality expectations. Support and administer new-hire weld tests, evaluate results, and provide constructive feedback to help build skills and ensure competency. Develop and refine skill-building training modules and materials to improve welding performance and consistency. Conduct visual and dimensional inspections of welds across various projects to verify quality and compliance with specifications. Ensure welding procedures, techniques, and documentation comply with AWS standards and customer requirements. Review destructive and non-destructive testing (NDT) documentation for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to applicable codes. Provide technical support and guidance to welders and production teams, including recommendations for corrective actions when non-conformances are identified. Maintain detailed quality documentation, including inspection reports, weld maps, and traceability records. Identify non-conformances, recommend corrective actions, and support follow-up activities to verify resolution and prevent recurrence. Promote and enforce safety and environmental regulations during all inspection and training activities. Collaborate with quality and production personnel to support continuous improvement initiatives and enhance overall welding quality. Essential Skills Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) through AWS, or the ability to obtain certification within a defined timeframe. Solid understanding of welding codes and standards such as AWS D1.1 and ASME Section IX. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and welding symbols. Hands-on experience with MIG welding and TIG welding in a production or fabrication environment. Ability to use inspection tools and measurement equipment accurately and consistently. Excellent communication skills with the ability to teach, coach, and support welders at varying skill levels. Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate documentation and records. Ability to work collaboratively with production, quality, and engineering teams to resolve issues and improve processes. Additional Skills & Qualifications Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential through AWS is strongly preferred. Additional NDT certifications such as UT, RT, MT, or PT are a plus. Experience working within quality management systems such as ISO 9001 or AS9100. Prior experience training welders or supporting weld tests in a manufacturing or fabrication setting. Experience in fabrication environments with a focus on quality and process control. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple inspections, trainings, and documentation tasks. Work Environment This position operates in a structured production environment with a focus on welding, fabrication, and quality inspection. The standard first shift runs from 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and additional shifts are available, offering flexibility and overtime opportunities. You will work around welding equipment, fabrication tools, inspection instruments, and NDT documentation, in a setting that prioritizes safety, organization, and adherence to established procedures. The facility supports a hands-on, shop-floor presence where you collaborate closely with welders and production teams, and follow all safety and environmental guidelines while performing inspections and training. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Mequon, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $120000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
