Job Description
Job Summary A nuclear engineering and consulting organization is hiring a Senior Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer to support nuclear power plant modernization projects in the Cedar Rapids area. This role focuses on leading and executing control systems upgrades using advanced industry technologies, while coordinating across multiple engineering disciplines. The position follows a hybrid work model, with onsite support required to meet project and client needs. Responsibilities Lead and support small to large instrumentation and controls projects with a focus on technical execution and project management Design and develop digital control systems, including PLCs, DCS, HSI, and networked computer systems Prepare functional requirements, implementation requirements, and procurement specifications for nuclear plant control systems Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve a wide range of controls engineering issues Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering disciplines to complete projects Interface directly with clients to ensure proper project execution and satisfaction Prepare and review technical reports, calculations, and studies in accordance with client requirements Develop project estimates, manage resources, and support budget planning Support proposal development efforts Prepare and review diagrams and drawings for new and upgraded control solutions Perform technical evaluations of vendor bids Interface with vendors to review documentation, verify equipment compliance, and witness factory acceptance testing (FAT) Support implementation activities at client facilities Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering from an ABET-accredited program 10+ years of experience in instrumentation and controls design engineering within a project team environment for commercial or industrial applications Experience with integrated and detailed control system design modifications Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred Strong written and verbal communication skills Technical knowledge of available control equipment and pre-engineered systems Experience serving as a client liaison in a support or lead engineering role Experience reviewing engineering and design documentation Additional Information Hybrid work arrangement requiring onsite support three days per week in or around the Cedar Rapids area Employment authorization sponsorship is not available for this position
