Job Description

Transducer Design Expert Arenal Medical Corp Baltimore, MD Job Details Contract $50 - $100 an hour 22 hours ago Qualifications Teamwork Equipment troubleshooting Master's degree Doctor of Philosophy Manufacturing Research & development
Full Job Description About Arenal Medical:
Arenal Medical is a MedTech startup on a mission to redefine cardiovascular care by democratizing the early diagnosis of Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD). We are developing a patented, low-cost, multi-sensor Doppler ultrasound platform that provides direct, clinically superior vascular assessments at the point of care. About the
Role:
Arenal Medical is developing a cuffless, non-invasive diagnostic device for the detection of Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) and arterial stiffness. We are seeking a highly experienced Ultrasound Transducer Design Expert who has "been there and done that" in vascular ultrasound to help us transition from our conceptual roadmap to hard manufacturing deliverables. You will work closely with our R D team to define the precise technical specifications for a custom, single-housing dual-element transducer before we submit our RFP to manufacturing vendors.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:
    Transducer Characterization & Specification:
Define the hard technical specifications (such as center frequency, bandwidth, active piezocomposite material, matching layers, and backing formulation) for a custom, single-housing, dual-element ultrasound transducer capable of simultaneous "Dual-Mode" operation. This transducer will specifically target the Radial, Dorsalis Pedis, Posterior Tibial, and Brachial arteries. Act as a technical liaison between Arenal and custom transducer vendors.
      Dual-Mode Geometry:
Help design the acoustic wedge/housing that supports simultaneous operation: Arterial Distension (A-Mode, 0° perpendicular) and Blood Velocity (PW Doppler, 45°-60° angled).
Acoustic Isolation, Beam Intersection Optimization & Near-Field Management:
Advise on mitigating main-bang ring-down (dead zones) to allow clear visualization of arterial walls at highly superficial depths (< 2.0 mm). Guide the mechanical and acoustic isolation barriers to ensure minimal crosstalk between elements and to achieve a beam intersection "sweet spot" across a depth of ranges.
          Electronics Parameter Optimization:
Advise on driving the electronics parameters (pulse repetition frequency (PRF), gain adjustment, excitation voltage) of the transducer and experimental protocol to achieve a good quality dataset for the direct algorithmic development for evaluation of arterial distension and blood velocity measurement at those peripheral sites with the host system (LeCoeur US-Key).
          Requirements:
          • Ph.D. or Master's degree in Acoustics, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
          • Years of proven research/industry experience, with direct experience to this type of work —specifically designing, characterizing, and troubleshooting single-element and dual-element pulsed-wave (PW) and A-mode transducers for vascular/cardiovascular applications.
          • Deep understanding of transducer design, selection, acoustic properties, driving electronics and experimental protocols.
          Preference:
While remote work is highly feasible, it would be preferable to be able to come into Baltimore,MD sometimes for in-person technical sessions, collaboration, and lab visits. How to
          Apply:
