Job Description

Job Description Insight Global is partnering with a large local utility seeking Design Engineers to support electrical substation projects throughout Northern and Central California. This position is responsible for developing engineering designs for substation modifications, capacity additions, reliability improvements, and grid modernization initiatives. The ideal candidate will have utility design experience, AutoCAD proficiency, and a strong understanding of substation engineering and design practices. Key Responsibilities
  •  Develop engineering designs and drawing packages for electrical substation projects
  •  Prepare design calculations, technical documentation, bills of material, reports, and schedules
  •  Support conceptual and detailed engineering design development
  •  Coordinate with internal engineering groups, project managers, construction teams, and external stakeholders
  •  Conduct design reviews and provide technical support throughout project execution
  •  Complete engineering deliverables in accordance with project schedules and quality standards

  •  Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited curriculum
  •  4-5+ years of utility design experience
  •  Experience utilizing AutoCAD for engineering design
  •  Valid California Class C Driver's License by start date
  •  Ability to develop and review electrical design packages and supporting documentation
  •  Strong communication and coordination skills with cross-functional project teams
  •  Ability to work in a hybrid environment and travel to project/substation sites as needed (approximately 10%)
  •  Experience in electric substation design
  •  EIT or PE certification
  •  Experience with utility infrastructure projects
  •  Microsoft Office proficiency including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  •  Experience developing or reviewing: o Single Line Diagrams o Meter & Relay Diagrams o AC/DC Schematics o Control Room Layouts o Switchboard Arrangements o Station Service Drawings o General Arrangement Drawings o Conduit & Grounding Plans
  •  Familiarity with substation equipment including: o Protective Relays o RTUs o Circuit Breakers o Transformers o Disconnect Switches o Batteries o Metering Equipment o Control Systems
