Summary Job Summary:
Diagnoses and treats visual problems and manage diseases, injuries, and other disorders of the eyes.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
:
NOTE:
The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification, however, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification. 1. Performs routine and emergency eye inspections, perform vision tests; analyzes results. 2. Identifies the patient's visual alertness, field of vision and hand-eye coordination. 3. Diagnoses sight problems, such as near/far-sightedness, glaucoma and color blindness. 4. Prescribes corrective lenses and medications. 5. Promotes eye health by teach patients about proper eye care techniques. 6. Identifies eye defects and diseases such as diabetes and liver failure and refers to other healthcare providers as necessary. 7. Records diagnoses and treatment plans including transfers and therapeutic prescriptions. 8. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
Required Education :
Completion of an accredited Optometry program.
Required Experience :
Recent training and/or clinical experience are required for all applicants for appointment; recent clinical experience is defined as having performed at least 200 outpatient activities relevant to outpatient practice prerogatives requested in the preceding two (2) years.
Preferred Experience :
Completion of an Optometry residency program.
Required Licenses/Certifications :
Licensed as an Optometrist by the California Board of Optometry; Successful completion of an optometry program accredited by the California Board of Optometry; current BLS Certification and Current DEA Registration.
Pay Range:
$72.52 - $120.88 / Hour The pay range for this position reflects the base pay scale for the role at Alameda Health System. Final compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to a candidate's experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, departmental equity, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and the operational needs of the organization. Alameda Health System also offers eligible positions a generous comprehensive benefits program.
