High Voltage Electrical Engineer San Leandro, CA Full-TimeOn-Site$165,000 - $185,000 /yr Posted May 26, 2026 High Voltage Electrical Engineer Position Overview We are seeking a High Voltage Electrical Engineer to design, develop, and validate high-voltage power systems and mixed-signal electronics for industrial and manufacturing applications. The role focuses on end-to-end hardware development including schematic capture, PCB design in Altium, high-voltage bring-up and testing at high kV levels, and delivering manufacturable designs with strong DFX practices. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced startup environment and collaborate across R D, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to move prototypes into reliable production. Key Responsibilities Lead design and development of high-voltage power electronics and mixed-signal systems, including high-voltage isolation, insulation coordination, and safety design for kV-class systems. Create and review schematics and PCB layouts using Altium, ensuring signal integrity, creepage/clearance, and manufacturability. Perform hands-on prototype bring-up, debugging, and validation of high-voltage hardware in the lab; define and execute test plans and failure analysis. Develop and maintain detailed design documentation, BOMs, and test procedures to support production handoff and regulatory reviews. Collaborate with mechanical, firmware, and manufacturing teams to ensure robust system integration and successful production ramps. Apply DFX principles to optimize designs for assembly, test, cost, and reliability in industrial manufacturing environments. Design and review safety systems, protection circuitry, and compliance evidence to meet applicable standards and industry best practices. Build and maintain test fixtures, high-voltage measurement setups, and automated test routines for repeatable validation. Troubleshoot field issues and support customer-facing commissioning or diagnostics when required. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of design processes in a startup setting. Qualifications Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. 5+ years of professional experience in high-voltage power electronics design, development, or testing involving kV-level systems. Proven experience with PCB schematic capture and layout in Altium, with a portfolio of designs demonstrating mixed-signal and high-voltage considerations. Strong understanding of mixed-signal electronics, high-voltage insulation, creepage/clearance, and isolation techniques. Hands-on experience with prototype bring-up, lab testing, high-voltage probes, oscilloscopes, and failure analysis methodologies. Familiarity with DFX practices, industrial manufacturing processes, and for testability/assembly considerations. Knowledge of relevant safety standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices for high-voltage equipment. Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and cross-functional communication skills. Startup experience and the ability to work in fast-paced, iterative development cycles preferred.
