Full-Time (BMS) Engineer Job Summary Summit Skilled Solutions is seeking an experienced Building Management System (BMS) Engineer to support the operation, maintenance, optimization, and continuous improvement of Building Management Systems (BMS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), and related facility control systems. The BMS Engineer will serve as a technical subject matter expert for building automation technologies and will be responsible for supporting the reliable and efficient operation of HVAC, mechanical, electrical, utility, and environmental control systems. This role requires strong experience with building automation, facility operations, controls troubleshooting, networking fundamentals, and MEP systems. The successful candidate will work closely with Facilities, Engineering, Operations, IT teams, contractors, and vendors to improve system reliability, optimize energy performance, support capital projects, and minimize operational disruptions. (BMS) Engineer Key Responsibilities Building Automation System Operations Monitor, operate, maintain, and support Building Management Systems (BMS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), and related automation platforms. Ensure reliable operation of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, utility, and environmental control systems. Monitor system performance, trends, alarms, and operational data. Analyze system data and performance metrics to identify operational issues and optimization opportunities. Improve system reliability while minimizing downtime and service disruptions. Support facility operations through effective monitoring and management of automated building systems. (BMS) Engineer System Commissioning & Startup Oversee and coordinate BMS hardware installation activities performed by contractors and controls technicians. Support system startup and commissioning activities. Coordinate point-to-point verification of field devices and control systems. Conduct functional performance testing to verify proper system operation. Ensure systems meet project requirements and operational expectations. Support turnover and handover activities from construction and project teams to facility operations. Develop and maintain operating procedures and system documentation. Provide end-user training on building automation systems and controls. (BMS) Engineer Troubleshooting & Technical Support Diagnose and resolve BMS hardware, software, networking, communication, and controls issues. Investigate control system alarms, trending abnormalities, and intermittent operational problems. Provide onsite and remote technical support for building automation systems. Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions. Troubleshoot HVAC, mechanical, electrical, utility, and environmental control systems. Coordinate technical support activities with equipment vendors, controls contractors, and technology providers. (BMS) Engineer Preventative Maintenance & System Administration Perform routine maintenance on BMS servers, workstations, field controllers, databases, and network-connected devices. Implement software updates, security patches, firmware upgrades, and system enhancements. Maintain system backup and disaster recovery procedures. Monitor overall system performance and reliability. Ensure BMS components remain current, supported, and operational. Maintain accurate system configurations and change management records. (BMS) Engineer Energy Management & System Optimization Monitor facility energy consumption and equipment performance using BMS analytics and reporting tools. Identify opportunities for energy conservation and operational efficiency improvements. Optimize control sequences, operating schedules, setpoints, and equipment strategies. Support sustainability initiatives and energy reduction goals. Develop reports and dashboards to track system performance and energy metrics. Analyze equipment operation and recommend improvements to facility controls and automation strategies. (BMS) Engineer Alarm Management & Performance Monitoring Configure and maintain alarm management systems and notification protocols. Establish alarm response procedures and escalation paths. Monitor alarm activity and ensure timely response to critical building conditions. Identify recurring alarms and implement corrective actions to reduce nuisance events. Support operational teams during emergency events and critical system failures. Documentation & Compliance Maintain accurate and current documentation, including: Control drawings Network diagrams Sequences of operation As-built documentation Equipment databases System configurations Change management records Operating procedures Version control documentation Additional responsibilities include: Maintain system configuration records. Support internal audits, inspections, and compliance reviews. Ensure compliance with organizational standards, cybersecurity requirements, and applicable regulations.

Provide technical consultation regarding building controls and automation strategies. Support facility upgrades, capital projects, and system improvement initiatives. QualificationsEducation & Training Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in one or more of the following: Building Automation Electrical Technology Mechanical Systems Engineering Technology Controls Engineering Related technical field Additional training in building controls, HVAC systems, networking, or automation systems is preferred. Experience 3-5 years of experience supporting Building Management Systems, facility automation systems, or commercial building operations. Experience troubleshooting and supporting HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and utility systems. Experience within one or more of the following environments is preferred: Commercial office Healthcare Life sciences Laboratory Higher education Institutional Industrial facilities Certifications Preferred certifications or technical training include: Building automation and controls certifications HVAC certifications Electrical certifications Automation certifications MEP-related certifications or technical training Valid driver's license required. Technical Skills Experience supporting one or more major Building Automation System platforms is preferred, including: Johnson Controls Metasys Siemens Desigo Schneider Electric EcoStruxure Honeywell EBI Tridium Niagara Automated Logic Delta Controls Distech Controls Candidates should also have experience or knowledge in: HVAC controls and automation Mechanical and electrical systems Building Management Systems Energy Management Systems Control sequences Field controllers and sensors Building automation networking System commissioning Point-to-point testing Functional performance testing Trend analysis Alarm management System optimization Energy management Preventative maintenance BMS software and hardware troubleshooting Networking and communication protocols System documentation and configuration management Additional Skills Ability to read and interpret safety procedures, operating instructions, maintenance manuals, blueprints, diagrams, and work orders. Strong troubleshooting and analytical abilities. Ability to prepare maintenance documentation, technical reports, and professional correspondence. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, contractors, vendors, and management. Ability to calculate measurements, percentages, proportions, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply basic algebraic and geometric concepts to maintenance and technical activities. Ability to solve practical problems involving multiple variables and complex building systems. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a technically strong BMS or Building Automation professional with a solid understanding of facility operations and MEP systems. They should be comfortable working with both the operational and technical sides of building automation, including troubleshooting controls, analyzing system performance, supporting commissioning, managing alarms, and identifying opportunities to improve energy efficiency and system reliability.
