Job Description

Power Studies Engineer Grid Solutions LLC is seeking an Power Studies Engineer to join our engineering team. This position will be responsible for performing electrical power system studies, analysis, and engineering services for industrial, commercial, utility, and other electrical power system applications. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of power system fundamentals, experience with power system modeling software, and the ability to effectively communicate technical findings to both customers and internal teams. Responsibilities Provide electrical engineering design, analysis, and power system studies Develop and perform short-circuit, protective device coordination, and arc-flash studies for low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical systems. Perform power factor analysis and correction, harmonic modeling and analysis, grounding studies, and other power quality assessments. Develop and maintain accurate electrical system models, including one-line diagrams, equipment data, protective device settings, and system parameters. Analyze study results and develop practical engineering recommendations to improve system reliability, safety, protection, and performance. Prepare clear and technically accurate engineering reports, study documentation, calculations, and recommendations for customers and internal use. Review electrical drawings, equipment specifications, and other project documentation to gather information necessary to complete power system studies. Occasionally interact directly with customers to gather critical information, clarify system requirements, discuss study findings, and review engineering plans. Work collaboratively with engineering, project management, and Field Services teams to support project execution and resolve technical issues. Occasionally work in the field under the direction of the Field Services team on shutdown, startup, commissioning, testing, and maintenance projects. Support field personnel by providing engineering assistance, troubleshooting, and interpretation of study results when required. Maintain awareness of applicable electrical codes, standards, and industry practices related to power system studies and electrical safety. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and at least 3 years of relevant engineering experience; preference given to candidates with an educational focus or professional experience in power systems and power system studies. Experience performing short-circuit, protective device coordination, arc-flash, and power quality studies preferred. Demonstrated experience using SKM, ETAP, ASPEN, EasyPower/EZPower, or other electrical power system modeling and analysis software. Strong understanding of electrical power systems and equipment, including low-, medium-, and high-voltage systems up to 500 kV. Working knowledge of power system protection, electrical distribution systems, transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, protective relays, and associated equipment. Ability to interpret electrical one-line diagrams, equipment specifications, drawings, and technical documentation. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex electrical systems and develop practical engineering solutions. Must be able to clearly communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, and be comfortable communicating directly with customers and coworkers. Strong technical writing and documentation skills. Field experience with substations, switchgear, protective relaying, or electrical testing and commissioning highly desirable. Utility design or utility power system experience is a plus. Professional Engineering (PE) license or progress toward obtaining a PE is a plus. Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with engineering and field service teams. Availability for occasional domestic and international travel is a plus. $100,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
