Engineering Drafting Technician What You Will Do:
As an Engineering Drafting Technician, you will help ensure critical transmission and substation projects are accurate, organized, and moving forward. This role supports the Engineering Department by preparing and maintaining drawings, maps, records, technical data, and project documentation for electric utility infrastructure. In addition, you will: Support drafting, design, and documentation for transmission, substation, relaying, SCADA, and related engineering projects. Use AutoCAD, PLSCADD, and related tools to assist with plan and profile drawings, substation plans, maps, standard details, and project drawings. Update drawings, maps, and engineering records as projects are designed, modified, completed, or constructed. Gather, maintain, and analyze engineering data for engineering studies, reports, and project documentation. Assist with equipment specifications, bid/proposal evaluations, bills of material, inventory information, and asset records. Support relaying, fusing, recloser coordination, and related technical calculations as assigned. Help maintain drafting standards, transmission standard details, structure and cable files, and regulatory compliance documentation. Stay familiar with applicable utility and industry standards and keep engineering leadership informed of project progress, needs, and potential issues.
What We Are Looking For:
We are looking for an organized, accurate, and dependable technician who enjoys technical drafting, utility design support, and detailed project documentation. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently, coordinating with others, and maintaining accurate records that support safe and reliable electric utility operations.
The ideal candidate will have:
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in CADD, Mechanical Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered. Minimum two (2) years of experience in CADD, mechanical drafting, engineering drafting, or a related technical field. Strong CADD/drafting skills, mathematical ability, attention to detail, and document management skills. Ability to read and interpret drawings, technical information, oral and written instructions, and legal property descriptions. Ability to manage multiple assignments, work independently, and maintain accuracy. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Valid driver's license and ability to maintain required qualifications for operating a vehicle when necessary.
Preferred Experience or Knowledge Includes:
AutoCAD, PLSCADD, and drafting standards. Electrical schematics, plan and profile drawings, survey plans, substation layout, and design. Electric utility terminology, transmission structures and lines, metering, relaying, SCADA, and communication systems. Design drawings and drafting experience in civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, or related engineering disciplines.
