Job Description

Overview:
Our client, a leading employee-owned engineering consulting firm specializing in power, renewable energy, transportation, and water infrastructure, is seeking a Substation Structural Engineer to support critical utility infrastructure projects through structural design, engineering analysis, and multidisciplinary project execution. This role serves as a discipline engineer or project engineer, planning, coordinating, and executing complex project phases while developing structural steel and foundation designs for utility substation and power delivery projects. Responsibilities include performing structural analyses, engineering calculations, design reviews, and recommending design modifications to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient project outcomes. The ideal candidate is a technically strong engineer who can work collaboratively across disciplines, manage project priorities, support client interactions, and contribute to the successful delivery of technically challenging infrastructure projects. Experience with structural steel design, drilled pier and spread footing foundation design, and utility substation structures is highly valued. This remote, full-time position is open to qualified candidates throughout the United States.
Pay range:
$110,000 - $126,900

Responsibilities:
Apply current, standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to complete engineering tasks. Develop plans, specifications, and observation reports to ensure these items are complete, accurate, and in accordance with sound engineering practice. Practice efficiency engineering as it pertains to design selection. Recommend alterations to development and design to improve quality. Work closely with engineering technicians and experienced engineers. Work in the office or in the field. Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Participate in the resolution of design problems that may include performing field investigations or observations. Check design computations completed by others. Coordinate specific design aspects of a project. Perform detailed engineering design and evaluations within specialty. Devise new approaches and solutions to problems encountered. Prepare reports and correspondence concerning the direction of assigned projects. Participate in marketing, sales, and business development activities within the assigned market. Demonstrate a wide degree of creativity and latitude. Effectively communicate and interact with clients to ensure their needs are being met. Work closely with other disciplines on multidisciplinary projects.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Civil and/or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent required. Professional Structural Engineer (SE) registration required. Minimum of 4+ years of engineering experience preferred. Knowledge of electrical utility substation layout and design preferred. Understanding of structural steel, drilled pier, and spread footing design and detailing required. Experience using MathCAD, STAAD, or equivalent foundation design programs and/or other structural modeling software preferred. Knowledge of AISC and ACI required; ASCE and NESC preferred. Basic understanding of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation preferred. Proven experience with Microsoft software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Demonstrates openness to innovation by embracing and applying evolving technology and AI tools to enhance workflows, solve problems, and drive continuous improvement.
