Supervises the activities of maintenance and custodial staff. Responsible for the operation and maintenance, as well as the tests and calibrations of all electrical components, including high voltage electrical distribution systems and equipment and emergency diesel power generation systems for critical building components at the direction of the Plant Utilities Engineer 4. Maintains uninterrupted power supply system for critical building components; and other building systems including, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, hot water, plumbing, refrigeration, compressed air, laboratory vacuum systems, water purification, laboratory gas systems and lines, building and evidence security and monitoring systems, as well as fire detection and sprinkler structures. Coordinates installation and/or maintenance of all computer and telephone cabling. Responsible for the oversight of systems maintenance, health and safety issues, and energy conservation projects, including the maintenance of laboratory hoods, biological safety cabinets and other chemical storage areas. In conjunction with the Plant Utilities Engineer 4, participates in off hours monitoring and maintenance of the above listed laboratory systems requiring 24 hour availability to return to the building. Prepares and administers facility related service contracts. Assists in the completion of other engineering repairs and maintenance at other Division of State Police Installations. Minimum Qualifications One year of permanent service as a Plant Utilities Engineer 1, SG-14, or higher, OR Two years of permanent service as a Plant Utilities Assistant, SG-9, OR Four years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of boilers, HVAC, or auxiliary plant utilities equipment in commercial, industrial, or institutional facilities
