Job Description

Job Description This role supports one of the largest utility providers by planning how the transmission grid will evolve to support growing energy demand and New York's clean energy goals.

The engineer evaluates how renewable generation sources such as offshore wind, solar, and battery storage will impact the electric system and develops solutions to maintain reliability. This individual performs complex power system studies, supports transmission expansion projects, and works closely with system operators, planners, and regulatory stakeholders.

Key ResponsibilitiesSupport long-term transmission planning efforts and the integration of New York State clean energy initiatives.

Perform transmission planning studies related to renewable energy resources, including offshore wind, solar, and battery energy storage projects.

Conduct power system analyses including thermal, voltage, short-circuit, and stability studies.

Evaluate transmission system performance and identify upgrades required to maintain reliability.

Design and develop transmission system modifications to accommodate new generation resources and emerging technologies.

Assess reliability benefits and system impacts associated with proposed transmission projects.

Perform interconnection studies for utility-owned generation and energy projects.

Collaborate with regional transmission organizations, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders on transmission planning initiatives.

Ensure compliance with NERC standards, company policies, and applicable regulatory requirements. Skills and Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related discipline.

Minimum 3+ years of experience in transmission planning, transmission operations, transmission design, or bulk electric system engineering.

Knowledge of electric power system design, operation, and reliability principles.

Experience supporting transmission system studies and planning activities.

Experience with power system modeling and simulation software such as:

Load flow studiesThermal analysisVoltage analysisShort-circuit studiesStability studiesKnowledge of renewable energy integration and transmission interconnection processes.

Familiarity with NERC reliability standards and utility regulatory requirements.
