This position may be filled as an Engineer III or one level higher as a Senior Engineer dependent upon the experience level of the selected candidate. The Engineer III/SR position are the advanced levels of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer III/SR position solve complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with limited to no supervision. An Engineer III/SR effectively applies fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is progressively complex and varied. This position is for a Civil Engineer on our Substation Engineering team located in Duke Energy's regional headquarters in downtown Cincinnati, OH. This work group is responsible for the design of new and existing distribution and transmission substations from 4kV through 345kV in Ohio and Kentucky. Projects range from routine equipment modifications and installations to the complete design of new substations. The position requires the individual to be able to manage work between multiple projects simultaneously to ensure timely release of engineering designs. The individual will utilize a variety of tools and techniques to complete an engineering design, including current design specifications, pertinent code manuals, computer aided design/drafting software, and other reference sources. The final product is an engineering release package consisting of pertinent drawings, permits, bills of material, etc. Responsibilities The responsibilities of this position include: Structural steel design Reinforced concrete design Foundation designs including mat, spread footer, and drilled shaft Review site development designs Drawing review for assigned projects Engineering support during construction Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity. Contributes to team decision-making in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities; deals with changing priorities and differing situations and makes decision that may affect the work of the team. Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches related to well-defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity. Conducts engineering and related studies; completes routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with increasing ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces; increasingly competent to design, operate and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing systems. Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures, proficient in technical and analytical competencies. Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files. Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
