Electrical Engineer / Power Systems Engineer — Marine Power Systems Primary Responsibilities The electrical engineering role will provide you with the opportunity to develop your career and skills, and get some exciting experiences, including: Supporting development, integration, and testing of advanced electrical power and control systems for U.S. Navy ship programs Supporting design and analysis efforts for naval ship power electronics and control system initiatives Working with subject matter experts, OEMs, vendors, and shipboard personnel to sustain, verify, and validate power electronic control systems Supporting a mix of controls development, modeling, testing, lab work, and technical documentation activities Participate in planning, design, analysis, and specification development for future ship power systems Responsibilities Review and update electrical drawings, specifications, and system documentation for power systems from 450VAC to 13.8kVAC or up to 1000VDC Analyze system performance and recommend improvements or corrective actions Create analytical models or support simulations or prototypes to assess design options Participate in design reviews and evaluate OEM test results and ensure compliance with Navy requirements Conduct self‑directed research using manuals, technical data, and system documentation Follow safety protocols and use proper electrical safety equipment Travel up to 25% for shipboard support, troubleshooting, and modernization activities
Requirements:
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or Electrical & Computer Engineering only per contract 2-5 years of experience in electrical engineering with a focus on power systems Experience with at least two of the following: Rectifiers, inverters, converters, transformers, IGBTs, harmonic filters, UPS, controllers, relays Experience with high-voltage 3‑phase systems (450V+) three‑phase systems (4160VAC / 1000VDC / 13.8kVAC preferred) Strong verbal and written skills to clearly explain technical experience, steps, metrics, and results U.S. Citizenship required Ability to obtain a Secret clearance Demonstrated commitment to long‑term projects Experience at the application level (e.g., power plants, solar plants, battery systems, substations, electric propulsion).
Note :
This role does not involve board-level design, fixes, or component-level testing. Must be on-site at the Philadelphia Navy Yard 3 days/week, depending on project needs Preferred Qualifications, Skills, and Experience Navy shipboard experience Experience with PLC/controller programming, HMI programming, MATLAB Simulink, and Networking is a strong plus.
