Job Description

Position OverviewA confidential engineering consulting organization is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with strong central utilities experience to support complex facilities and infrastructure projects. This role focuses on providing advanced mechanical engineering expertise for mission‑critical infrastructure, with an emphasis on central boiler and chiller plants, energy efficiency, and low‑carbon systems.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer operates with a high degree of independence, applying advanced engineering techniques and exercising sound judgment on complex technical challenges. This position includes technical leadership, mentoring, and collaboration across disciplines to deliver high‑quality engineering solutions on time and within budget.

Key ResponsibilitiesEnsure internal technical policies and procedures are followed during project executionLead the development of engineering concepts, design approaches, and technical solutions for assigned projectsPerform advanced engineering studies, analyses, and designs for large and complex systemsSupport project planning activities, including budgets, cost estimates, and schedulesReview shop drawings, track design changes, and coordinate directly with contractors, vendors, and client representativesPerform on‑site inspections during construction and coordinate design requirements with contractors and equipment suppliersDevelop innovative engineering solutions to improve efficiency, quality, and project deliveryLead or oversee project scoping, implementation, and detailed design effortsCoordinate engineering designs across multiple disciplines and participate in project meetingsAssist with proposal development, cost estimating, and client presentationsProvide technical feedback to support staff performance reviewsDevelop and maintain specialized technical expertise within targeted market sectorsManage discipline‑specific schedules, deliverables, and billing milestonesServe as a recognized technical expert for clients and project teamsParticipate in professional organizations to enhance technical credibility and industry presenceSet technical direction for the mechanical discipline on assigned projects, delegating tasks while retaining responsibility for complex or high‑value workMentor and guide junior engineering staffRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in EngineeringProfessional Engineer (PE) licenseMinimum of 10 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experienceRequired Technical ExpertiseExtensive experience in central boiler and chiller plant design, including:

Evaluation of existing systemsDesign of new and upgraded central utility systemsExperience with modeling and analysis software for:

Central plant performanceThermal distribution systemsHydraulic modeling and pipe stress analysisKnowledge of central plant instrumentation and controlsExperience with high‑performance, energy‑efficient, and low/zero‑carbon systems, including geothermal heat pump systemsAdditional ExpectationsAbility to work independently on complex engineering challengesStrong communication and collaboration skillsCommitment to mentoring and knowledge sharingFocus on delivering high‑quality work that meets technical, schedule, and budget objectives
