Full Time Department:
Water/Gas Engineering Services Job Statement Works in the field and in the office assisting Engineering Aide IIs, Engineering Aide III's, and other Department Personnel. Supports and assists the Engineering Aide II in performing designated duties. Essential Duties Assists other Aide's and Department Personnel with staking, obtaining easement descriptions and rights-of-way, and designing and processing work orders. Works in the field and with available data to gather and translate plant conditions to records for both engineering and operating purposes. Serves as back-up, to other staff as needed. Communicates with customer/developers and makes on site investigations to determine facilities required to provide or maintain adequate service. Prepares designs for necessary facilities (for customer development and/or for system improvement); determining equipment locations while coordinating with other utilities and obtaining necessary easements. Uses current software, such as MicroStation, Bentley, GTech, and SAP, to develop drawings, estimates, material sheets, and other required documents for residential, commercial, and industrial projects. Prepares ATC, fees, credits, and quotes according to company policies. Prepares maps as needed for tree trimming surveys, inspections, or other projects. Performs field surveys as needed for collecting notes for work order preparation, data collection, inspections, etc. Coordinates the installation of utility infrastructure with project managers and contractors. Works to resolve conflicts that may arise. Additional Duties Coordinates with other utilities and/or departments to ensure there are no conflicts between existing or proposed utilities. Maintains a working knowledge of construction standards, code requirements, and job-related safety practices. Assists with customers regarding service requests and other issues. Assists during emergency restoration efforts as required. Promotes positive company image through good customer relations and prompt service. Operates a non-commercial company vehicle as necessary. Performs additional duties as assigned.
Job Requirements Education/Training/Certifications:
High School graduate or equivalent. AS degree in a related technical discipline is desired.
Experience/Skills:
Engineering drawing experience preferred, CAD (Computer Aided Drawing) preferred; Windows Applications - MS Office Suite. Prior experience in engineering design, underground locating, surveying, construction, fiber, and/or utilities is preferred.
Equipment:
Vehicles, computer, office machines (e.g., copier, fax, etc.)
Physical Demands/Environmental Conditions:
May require working in inclement weather, carrying items or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs, on-call availability, manual operation of equipment and valves, opening transformer and electrical cabinets. Climbing of and entry into water tanks for inspection purposes.
Other:
Ability to communicate and keep accurate records is essential. Must have math skills necessary to do load calculations and other calculations specific to the department. The job requires work in close proximity blowing gas (GAS ONLY), or high-water pressure (WATER ONLY). This position is considered a safety sensitive position. All employees in safety sensitive positions are subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
