  • SCADA & Operations Data is responsible for performing detailed analysis of operational and SCADA data to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of wells, production facilities, and associated infrastructure.
This position will analyze large volumes of operational data, identify trends and abnormalities, troubleshoot data and equipment performance issues, and provide actionable information to Engineering, Operations, and Management. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of oil and gas well and facility operations, SCADA systems, instrumentation, and operational data. This position requires the ability to go beyond basic data monitoring by identifying relationships between operating conditions, equipment performance, production trends, alarms, and SCADA data. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform thorough analysis of SCADA and operational data from wells, production facilities, and associated equipment. Review historical and real-time operating data to identify trends, abnormalities, performance degradation, and potential operational issues. Analyze pressures, temperatures, flow rates, production volumes, tank levels, equipment status, run times, alarms, and other key operating parameters. Develop trending and comparative analyses to identify changes in well and facility performance. Investigate abnormal SCADA readings and determine whether issues are related to equipment performance, instrumentation, communications, data quality, or actual operating conditions. Maintain a strong working understanding of well and facility operations and how field equipment is represented within SCADA systems. Assist Engineering and Operations with troubleshooting wells, production equipment, facility systems, instrumentation, and SCADA-related issues. Review SCADA alarms and alarm history to identify recurring conditions and opportunities for operational improvement. Compare SCADA information against field observations, production records, equipment data, and other sources to verify data accuracy. Identify missing, inconsistent, or unreliable data and coordinate with appropriate personnel to resolve data-quality issues. Develop reports, dashboards, spreadsheets, and other analytical tools to communicate operating performance and trends. Provide routine and ad hoc analysis to Engineering, Operations, HSE, and Management. Support root-cause investigations by providing historical SCADA trends, alarm information, and operating data. Assist with development and monitoring of key performance indicators for wells, facilities, and equipment. Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, production performance, operational efficiency, and preventative maintenance through data analysis. Work closely with field Operations personnel to understand actual operating conditions and ensure data analysis accurately reflects field activities. Support commissioning, startup, shutdown, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities by reviewing and analyzing SCADA data. Maintain accurate documentation of analyses, findings, recommendations, and identified operational issues. Perform other technical and analytical duties as assigned. Technical Knowledge The successful candidate should have a working knowledge of: SCADA systems and operational data historians Oil and gas wells and production operations Production and processing facilities Pumps, compressors, separators, tanks, valves, meters, and related equipment Pressure, temperature, flow, and level instrumentation PLCs, RTUs, transmitters, and field instrumentation Alarm and event data Production measurement and operating parameters Data trending and time-series analysis Equipment operating limits and abnormal operating conditions Microsoft Excel and data-analysis tools Dashboards and data visualization Basic troubleshooting of instrumentation, communications, and SCADA data Qualifications Associate's or bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Process Technology, Instrumentation, Automation, Data Analytics, or a related technical discipline preferred. Relevant oil and gas operations, SCADA, automation, engineering technician, or facility experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. Experience analyzing SCADA, production, facility, or operational data strongly preferred. Working knowledge of oil and gas wells and production facilities strongly preferred. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills preferred, including data manipulation, trending, formulas, pivot tables, and large datasets. Experience with Power BI, SQL, data historians, or similar analytical platforms is preferred. Ability to interpret P&IDs, process flow diagrams, equipment information, and operational documentation is preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to analyze large datasets and identify meaningful operational trends. Ability to recognize abnormal operating conditions from SCADA data. Strong understanding of the relationship between field equipment, instrumentation, SCADA points, and operational performance. Ability to distinguish between potential data/instrumentation problems and actual equipment or process problems. Strong attention to detail and data accuracy. Ability to communicate technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical personnel. Ability to independently investigate an issue and develop fact-based conclusions. Strong organizational and documentation skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond to time-sensitive operational requests.
