Job Description

Montverde Academy seeks an innovative and student-centered Engineering & Robotics teacher to teach courses across the Middle and Upper School divisions. The successful candidate will design and deliver engaging, hands-on learning experiences that develop students' skills in engineering design, problem-solving, robotics, and applied technology. This position is ideal for an educator who values project-based learning and enjoys guiding students through the design, testing, and refinement of real-world solutions. In addition to classroom instruction, the teacher will serve as a student advisor and contribute to co-curricular programs that strengthen Montverde Academy's STEM offerings.
Instruction and Curriculum:
Teach courses such as the following, with assignments varying based on program needs and the successful candidate's expertise: Middle School Foundational Robotics Middle School Competitive Robotics Middle School Aerospace Engineering Middle School Foundations of Engineering Upper School Principles of Engineering Upper School Aerospace Engineering Upper School Robotics and Competitive Robotics Plan, develop, and implement engaging engineering and robotics curriculum in collaboration with members of the STEM or Engineering Department. Design hands-on, project-based learning experiences that emphasize the engineering design process, iteration, and real-world application. Teach foundational and advanced concepts in robotics, mechanics, electronics, and systems thinking. Incorporate emerging technologies and tools (e.g., CAD, programming, sensors, automation, and related technologies) where appropriate. Create a student-centered learning environment that fosters creativity, innovation, collaboration, and problem-solving. Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners and the needs of Montverde Academy's international student population. Assess student learning through projects, design challenges, presentations, and other performance-based measures. Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance.
Collaboration and Community Engagement:
Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary projects and cross-divisional learning opportunities. Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress and program initiatives. Participate fully in faculty meetings, professional development, advisory responsibilities, and school events. Seek opportunities for ongoing professional learning in engineering, robotics, and STEM education. Uphold Montverde Academy's standards for faculty members regarding teaching, service, and scholarship as outlined in the MVA Employee Handbooks. Co-Curricular Involvement Lead or support competitive robotics teams and related STEM competitions. Contribute to co-curricular and extracurricular programs such as engineering clubs, robotics teams, or STEM-focused initiatives. Support student engagement beyond the classroom through mentorship, advisory, and school-wide activities.
Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, robotics, computer science, or related field. Demonstrated ability to teach engineering and/or robotics concepts through hands-on, project-based instruction. Strong background in robotics, engineering design, or related technical fields. Experience with tools and technologies such as programming platforms, robotics kits, CAD software, or similar systems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively. Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and working with a diverse, international student population.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in engineering, STEM education, or related field. Experience coaching or leading competitive robotics teams (e.g., VEX, FIRST, or similar programs). Experience teaching engineering or robotics at the middle and/or high school level. Familiarity with interdisciplinary and project-based learning environments. Experience working in an independent day and/or boarding school environment. Position Details Ten-month faculty position, with opportunities for summer programs Includes advisory responsibilities and active participation in the life of the school Physical requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb, or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. You must be able to access and navigate each department at the Academy's facilities.
