Job Description

Robotics / Automation Applications EngineerPosition Overview We are seeking a Robotics / Automation Applications Engineer to design, develop, and integrate custom robotic automation systems for industrial applications. This position is ideal for a mechanically minded engineer who enjoys taking ownership of projects from initial concept and quoting through design, integration, installation, and final run-off. You will work directly with customers and internal engineering teams to develop practical automation solutions involving industrial robots, custom tooling and fixturing, mechanical systems, and packaged robotic cells . The successful candidate will combine strong mechanical design capabilities with hands-on knowledge of robotic applications and industrial machinery. Key Responsibilities Develop and integrate robotic automation systems for welding, material handling, machine tending, and other industrial applications. Design mechanical assemblies, custom tooling, fixtures, robot end-of-arm tooling (EOAT), and supporting equipment . Develop complete packaged robotic systems and automation cells based on customer requirements. Use 3D CAD software to create mechanical designs, assemblies, layouts, and manufacturing documentation. Evaluate customer applications and develop automation concepts and technical solutions. Support projects throughout the entire lifecycle, including concept development, quoting, engineering, fabrication, integration, testing, installation, and run-off . Work directly with customers to gather requirements, troubleshoot technical issues, and provide ongoing engineering support. Assist with the selection and integration of industrial robots, servo systems, motion-control components, sensors, tooling, and other automation equipment. Support robot programming, debugging, commissioning, and optimization as required. Coordinate with electrical, controls, manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly teams throughout project execution. Perform design reviews and ensure systems meet performance, safety, manufacturability, and customer requirements. Troubleshoot mechanical and robotic system issues during integration and commissioning. Support equipment installation and customer acceptance activities at customer facilities. Travel to customer locations as needed for installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and run-off. Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. 3+ years of experience in industrial automation, robotics integration, capital equipment, or industrial machinery. Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on understanding of industrial equipment and machinery. Experience with mechanical design and custom tooling/fixturing . Working knowledge of industrial robotic applications such as robotic welding, material handling, machine tending, or similar automation processes . Proficiency with 3D CAD software , such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or equivalent. Ability to translate customer requirements and concepts into functional mechanical and robotic systems. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. Ability to manage technical responsibilities across multiple stages of a project. Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with customers. Willingness to travel less than 20% for customer support, equipment installation, commissioning, and run-off. Preferred Qualifications Hands-on experience programming industrial robots, particularly FANUC , ABB, Motoman/Yaskawa, KUKA, or similar platforms. Experience working with robotic arms, controllers, and associated automation equipment . Experience designing and delivering complete packaged robotic systems or automation cells . Background in robotic welding automation and knowledge of welding processes. Experience with weldments, fabricated assemblies, and structural steel design . Exposure to PLC programming and integration . Understanding of motion-control systems, servo motors, and servo drives. Experience integrating robotic equipment with conveyors, positioners, tooling, safety systems, sensors, and other industrial automation equipment. Previous experience working for a robotics integrator, automation OEM, machine builder, or custom equipment manufacturer. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a self-driven, mechanically focused engineer who enjoys owning projects from concept through working hardware on the shop floor . You should be comfortable moving between CAD design, robotic equipment, customer discussions, troubleshooting, and hands-on integration. This position is particularly well suited for someone who doesn't want to be limited to a desk-based design role and instead enjoys seeing their designs built, programmed, tested, installed, and put into production .
