Job Summary To Apply for this Job Click Here Automation Controls Engineer - LaOtto, IN Custom Automation | PLC Programming | Robotics If you're an experienced controls engineer who would rather build something new than program the same equipment over and over, this role offers plenty of variety. We're seeking an Automation Controls Engineer to take customized industrial automation projects from electrical design and programming through testing, commissioning, and customer startup. You'll work with PLCs, robotics, vision systems, motion control, and custom-built equipment while collaborating directly with mechanical engineering, manufacturing, customers, and suppliers.

Automation Controls Engineer Requirements & Qualifications:
5+ years of industrial controls, automation, or electrical engineering experience Hands-on PLC programming experience with Allen-Bradley RSLogix 500 and Studio 5000 Experience programming Siemens Step 7 Professional and TIA Portal Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical and electrical schematic design Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, motor controls, servos, VFDs, sensors, communications, and machine safety Experience integrating PLCs, HMIs, robotic equipment, vision systems, and other automation components Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose electrical, programming, and equipment issues Ability to manage multiple custom automation projects and communicate effectively with customers, engineering, and manufacturing teams Ability to travel to customer locations for equipment installation, commissioning, and startup as needed Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship
Must Haves:
Develop controls architecture for custom automated equipment based on individual customer and project requirements Program, modify, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI applications for custom machinery Design electrical schematics and select appropriate controls hardware and electrical components Integrate robotics, vision systems, servos, VFDs, sensors, safety devices, and industrial communication networks Perform system testing, debugging, validation, and commissioning before equipment delivery Troubleshoot controls issues during equipment build and customer startup while keeping projects on schedule Create bills of materials, programming documentation, network diagrams, electrical documentation, and system manuals
Automation Controls Engineer Preferred Background & Skills:
FANUC robot programming experience FANUC RoboGuide experience Cognex or Keyence vision system experience Microsoft Visual Studio or Visual Basic experience Experience with custom machinery, machine building, robotics integration, or engineered-to-order automation equipment Experience working directly with customers during system design, installation, or startup Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred
