This is a full-time, long-term position for an engineer who has strong hands-on experience with FANUC industrial robots and is comfortable working directly with automated manufacturing equipment. The primary responsibility of this position is to program, commission, troubleshoot, and optimize FANUC robotic systems used in automotive automation applications. The engineer will support both internal machine build and integration activities as well as equipment installation, startup, and technical service at customer facilities. Our customers primarily include automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers , with most field work located in Michigan and surrounding areas. We are specifically looking for someone who wants to build a stable, long-term career with the company rather than move from project to project on a short-term basis. Key Responsibilities Develop, modify, debug, and optimize FANUC robot programs for automated manufacturing and inspection systems. Independently perform robot setup, mastering, calibration, frame setup, TCP setup, I/O configuration, and program debugging . Perform robot path programming, motion optimization, collision avoidance, and cycle-time improvement . Use FANUC programming and simulation/offline programming tools to simulate, validate, and optimize robotic applications before installation . Commission robotic automation systems during machine build, installation, and customer-site startup. Integrate FANUC robots with PLCs, sensors, safety systems, vision systems, tooling, conveyors, measurement equipment, and other automation devices . Work closely with PLC, electrical, mechanical, and controls engineers to complete full automation cell integration. Troubleshoot robot alarms, communication problems, I/O issues, mechanical interference, tooling problems, and system performance issues. Support equipment installation, runoff, validation, production launch, and customer acceptance. Diagnose customer-site equipment problems and provide effective technical solutions. Maintain robot program backups, system parameters, commissioning records, and technical documentation. Provide technical support and basic training to customers, operators, and maintenance personnel when required. Follow applicable customer and automotive OEM safety requirements while working on production equipment. Required Qualifications Minimum 3 years of hands-on FANUC robot programming and commissioning experience. Strong working knowledge of FANUC industrial robot systems . Ability to independently program, troubleshoot, and commission FANUC robots. Experience with FANUC programming and robot simulation/offline programming software . Strong understanding of robot coordinate systems, frames, TCP, I/O, safety zones, motion control, and robot-cell integration. Hands-on experience troubleshooting automation equipment in a manufacturing environment. Good understanding of mechanical systems and electrical controls . Ability to read mechanical drawings and electrical schematics. Experience working with PLC-controlled automated equipment. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently at customer sites. Willingness to travel within Michigan and surrounding states as project needs require. Valid driver's license. Preferred Qualifications Candidates with the following experience will receive strong consideration: Fanuc vision system integration and commissioning experience FANUC iRVision or other industrial vision systems Keyence, Cognex, or similar vision/laser measurement systems FANUC ROBOGUIDE or comparable robot simulation/offline programming experience Robot-to-PLC communication and automated cell integration Automated inspection or measurement equipment Automotive assembly, inspection, gauging, or manufacturing automation Previous experience supporting GM, Ford or Tier 1 automotive facilities FANUC training or certification What We Are Looking For Technical ability is important, but we are also looking for the right long-term team member.
