Job Description
Role and Purpose The Design Thinking, Robotics & Engineering Teacher (Grades 9-12) empowers students through hands-on, project?based STEM learning rooted in design and engineering processes. By managing the MakerSpace and guiding work in robotics, electronics, CAD, and fabrication, the teacher fosters innovation, collaboration, and real?world problem?solving skills. Responsibilities Teach hands-on, project-based STEM classes using the Stanford Design Thinking Process and the Engineering Design Process. Instruct students in VEX Robotics (V5 and EXP), Arduino electronics, CAD, and fabrication skills. Manage the MakerSpace, including 3D printers, laser cutters, flight simulators, woodworking tools, drones, digital electronics, sewing machines, and other maker equipment. Ensure safety procedures are followed and provide tool training for students. Maintain equipment, manage supplies, and keep the lab organized. Foster a collaborative, creative classroom environment focused on problem-solving and innovation. Serve as a mentor and role model, encouraging student growth. Continuous monitoring of student activity to ensure compliance with safety procedures in a potentially hazardous environment. Maintain clear communication with parents, colleagues, and administration regarding student progress and departmental needs. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Uppers School or administration.
A Qualified Candidate Will Possess:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technology Education, Industrial Design, or related field (Master's Degree preferred) Valid Teaching Certification and/ or successful prior related teaching experience; MakerSpace experience preferred Experience with project-based learning and hands-on STEM instruction Experience with PLTW (Project Lead The Way) and University of Texas Engineering Your World curriculums strongly preferred Knowledge of VEX V5/EXP, Arduino, CAD software, and digital fabrication tools (Lightburn, Sketch Up, Fusion 360, Tinkercad)Similar remote jobs
