Job Description
Associate Distribution Engineer Location:
Charlotte, NC (Ballantyne Area)Duration:
6-Month Contract Pay Rate:
$35.50/hr W2 Role Overview We are seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer to join our team in Charlotte. In this role, you will develop comprehensive construction work packages for electric distribution systems (4kV to 138kV). This is a dynamic position involving a mix of advanced engineering design, technical calculations, and field inspections to improve grid reliability and infrastructure.Core Responsibilities Engineering Design:
Create construction packages for Overhead (OH), Underground (UG), and URD environments using GIS, CAD, and Work Management Systems (WMS).Grid Modernization:
Support projects focused on grid hardening, reliability, substation optimization, and street lighting.Technical Calculations:
Perform structural analysis for pole loading, guying, cable pulling, fault currents, and voltage drop/flicker.Field & Site Work:
Conduct field inspections (10-20% travel) to gather site data, returning to the office to finalize engineering designs.Project Coordination:
Develop Bill of Materials (BOM), estimate costs, prepare forestry trimming requests, and facilitate permit/Right-of-Way acquisitions.Reliability Analysis:
Assist in root cause analysis of outages and provide engineering support during the construction phase.Basic Qualifications Education:
BS in Engineering with 0 2 years of experience OR a Non-Engineering BS with 2 5 years of relevant utility experience.Tech Skills:
Proficiency in MS Office; experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, ESRI, or GIS is a major plus.Standards:
Familiarity with NESC Standards is highly preferred.Communication:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for customer advocacy and team collaboration.Field Readiness:
Willingness to work in outdoor environments and perform field inspections.Mobility:
Ability to use a personal vehicle for site visits (reimbursable) and willingness to perform 10-20% overnight travel as needed. Professional Attributes Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail. Ability to work effectively under the supervision of a technical lead.
