SUMMARY:
The VDC Engineer is a core member of Pogue's Virtual Design & Construction team, responsible for delivering high-quality BIM coordination, reality capture, and model-based workflows across all project phases from pursuit through closeout. This role works closely with preconstruction, project management, and field teams to integrate VDC processes into daily construction operations, helping Pogue build smarter, reduce risk, and deliver better outcomes for our clients and trade partners. As an employee-owner, the VDC Engineer is expected to take initiative, grow their craft, and actively contribute to Pogue's reputation as the leading VDC team in Texas.
EXPERIENCE
3-5 years of hands-on BIM/VDC experience in a commercial construction environment Demonstrated experience managing full-cycle BIM coordination on projects $100M+ in value; GC-side experience strongly preferred
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management/Science or commensurate experience in the construction industry
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop, manage, and deliver BIM models and VDC documentation across all project phases, ensuring completeness and accuracy aligned with project BIM execution plans Establish, maintain, and enforce VDC/BIM standards and workflows, including model setup, naming conventions, and coordination protocols across trade partners Create or supplement 3D modeling content not provided by design teams or trade partners, and compile federated models for coordination and owner deliverables Lead and facilitate clash detection and resolution processes with project teams and trade partners, tracking issues through to resolution and documenting outcomes Build and maintain collaborative relationships with trade partners, design teams, project managers, and field superintendents to ensure VDC processes are integrated into daily operations Read, interpret, and apply construction documents including drawings, specifications, and RFIs to drive accurate and actionable VDC deliverables throughout the project lifecycle Support preconstruction and business development pursuits by producing 4D phasing models, visual simulations, and project-specific VDC presentations that differentiate Pogue in competitive pursuits Plan and execute reality capture workflows including drone flights, 360° photo documentation, and laser scanning; integrate captured data with BIM models for progress monitoring, as-built documentation, and quality verification Conduct thorough QA/QC reviews of trade partner and internal models, identifying and resolving errors, omissions, and coordination conflicts before they impact the field Collaborate with the preconstruction team on model-based quantity takeoffs, constructability reviews, and design coordination, identifying cost and schedule risks early in the process Partner with design teams during preconstruction to identify and resolve design conflicts, missing scope, and constructability challenges before they escalate into field issues or change orders Train and mentor field teams, project managers, and Pogue staff on VDC tools, processes, and best practices fostering a culture of technology adoption across the organization Research, pilot, and help implement emerging VDC technologies and workflows including AI-assisted tools, scan-to-BIM, and automation that advance Pogue's competitive edge and operational efficiency
REQUIRE SKILLS & EXPECTATIONS
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex VDC concepts for non-technical audiences, including owners, subcontractors, and field staff Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver accurate work on schedule Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) with the ability to create clear reports, presentations, and project communications Working knowledge of commercial construction practices, sequencing, and delivery methods (GC, design-build, CM-at-risk) sufficient to produce field-relevant VDC deliverables Solid understanding of MEP systems and their spatial requirements, including how mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural elements interact in a federated model environment Proven ability to read and interpret complex construction documents, including architectural, structural, and MEP drawings, and translate them into actionable BIM coordination and field guidance Ability to independently lead BIM coordination kick-offs, author and manage BIM Execution Plans, and maintain active coordination workflows with trade partners throughout construction Deep working knowledge of VDC/BIM technologies, workflows, and industry best practices, including LOD standards, clash detection methodology, and model-based quantity takeoff, with demonstrated ability to apply them on active projects Collaborative team player with the interpersonal skills to work effectively across internal departments (estimating, project management, field operations) and with external partners, including owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors Knowledge of and proficiency in VDC/BIM technology solutions, including: o Autodesk Construction Cloud o Procore o Autodesk Revit o Autodesk AutoCAD o Autodesk Navisworks Manage o cmBuilder o Bluebeam o Sketchup o 360 Photos o Drones o Laser Scanning
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
1-3 years' experience working in the construction field 1-2 years of BIM-related experience FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate (preferred); additional Autodesk or VDC-related certifications a plus
