CITY OF KINGMAN SURVEY INSTRUMENT TECHNICIAN ENGINEERING
Learn more about our Benefits & Wellness Incentives We're looking for a Survey Instrument Technician to join our Engineering Department. In this role, you'll operate survey instruments, take accurate measurements, help set reference points, and make sure equipment is working properly. You'll also help keep the City's benchmarks and monumentation up to date. This role works under the direction of the City Surveyor and does not supervise others.
About You:
You enjoy working outdoors, using equipment, and being hands-on with your work. You're someone who pays close attention to detail, follows instructions carefully, and takes pride in accurate measurements and quality results. You can read maps and plans, perform math calculations confidently, and communicate well with coworkers, contractors, and the public. You're also comfortable working on active construction sites, staying aware of your surroundings, and following safety procedures at all times. High school diploma/GED. Coursework in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry supplemented by survey principles and techniques. One year of field experience performing survey work required; two years preferred. Valid Arizona driver's license or ability to obtain one prior to employment. Physically capable of moving about on construction sites. An equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the desired knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered Field Surveying (40%) You will operate survey instruments including GPS, total stations, levels, and data collectors to gather accurate field measurements for construction, topographic, and boundary surveys. Survey Calculations & Mapping (30%) Perform mathematical calculations to establish property corners, reference points, staking locations, and project benchmarks; interpret maps, plats, plans, drawings, and specifications. Equipment & Site Support (20%) Clean, check, and adjust survey equipment, assist with field operations, work safely in traffic and construction areas, and help maintain benchmarks and monumentation. Customer Service & Team Assistance (10%) You will communicate professionally with coworkers, contractors, and the public, maintain confidentiality, and support survey activities when the Survey Party Chief is unavailable, Work Environment The work environment characteristics attached to the job description are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
