Required - Southeast, Southwest & Mid-Atlantic Regions Build What You Lay Out Gregory Construction is looking for an experienced Survey Tech to support field surveying and layout on large-scale heavy civil construction projects across the country. We're looking for someone who understands construction—not just survey equipment. The ideal candidate has spent time around heavy civil, underground utilities, mass grading, excavation, concrete, and site development and understands how accurate field layout directly impacts production. What You'll Do Support daily construction surveying and field layout on active heavy civil projects. Set up and operate survey equipment including total stations, GPS units, tripods, prisms, and rods . Establish and mark layout points, lines, hubs, offsets, and elevations accurately. Provide survey support for mass grading, excavation, underground utilities, concrete, structural work, and site development . Assist crews with elevations, grades, locations, and other information needed to keep production moving. Read and interpret construction plans, drawings, and field information. Verify field conditions and communicate discrepancies to the survey and project teams. Work safely around heavy equipment, excavation, underground operations, and active construction crews . Maintain and transport survey equipment across active jobsites and uneven terrain. Travel between Gregory Construction projects as required. What We're Looking For We want someone with a strong construction background who understands heavy civil work and is ready to continue developing their technical surveying skills.
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of construction experience, with a strong preference for heavy civil construction. Hands-on experience supporting construction surveying and field layout. Experience working around grading, excavation, underground utilities, concrete, and/or site development operations . Ability to independently set up and level basic survey equipment. Working knowledge of measurements including feet, inches, tenths, and hundredths. Ability to perform basic construction and field math. Ability to read and understand construction plans and drawings. Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions. Ability to safely lift, carry, and transport survey equipment throughout an active construction site. Dependable, safety-minded, and able to work independently or as part of a field team. Valid driver's license. Willingness to travel to projects throughout Gregory Construction's operating regions. Heavy Civil Experience Matters The strongest candidates will come from construction environments similar to the work Gregory performs. Experience with any combination of the following is especially valuable: Heavy civil construction Mass excavation and earthwork Wet and dry underground utilities Storm, sanitary, and water systems Underground electrical and communications infrastructure Site grading and elevations Concrete and structural layout Large-scale site development Working around dozers, excavators, loaders, haul trucks, and other heavy equipment You don't need to know every surveying platform on day one. We're especially interested in someone who understands how heavy civil construction works in the field and wants to continue building their surveying expertise. Preferred Technical Experience Experience with any of the following is a plus, but not required : Trimble S7 Total Stations TSC7 Controllers and Trimble Access Trimble Business Center (TBC) Topcon GPS with Field or Pocket 3D GPS Machine Control systems, including Komatsu/TOPCON Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) OSHA 30 Certification or willingness to obtain Why Gregory Construction?
